I slumped my way up the small steps to my front door and sighed as I reached over to open the door. I opened it and walked in.

"Cole, curfew's at 7:00 it's 7:30!" My dad shouted from the kitchen, "where were you?"

I sighed as I began walking up the stairs, "I'm sorry. I got a little caught up." I said, "I'm going to change"

I walked into my room and closed the door. I smiled as Dash ran over to me and began to jump all over me.

"Dashy Dash" I smiled as I pet her soft fur, "tough day" I sighed as I walked over to my closet.

I picked out a pair of comfy pajamas and took a shower. After scrubbing my hair and body for 30 minutes straight I felt clean enough to get out.

I changed into my pajamas and dried my hair with my towel before throwing it on my bed. I walked back out and walked downstairs.

"What happened to your hair?" My dad asked as he widened his eyes.

My mind began to come up with excuses, "I know I didn't ask for permission-"

He stopped me by embracing me in a hug, "it looks great.. did you read the letter on your night stand?" He asked.

I nodded my head as I hugged him back, "yes" I smiled, "I loved it"

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to stay with you" he sighed as he kissed the top of my head.

"It's okay, you're busy working. I get it." I smiled as we pulled away.

"I left you a warm plate in the kitchen, I'm going upstairs to feed your mom" he said as he kissed me once again, "happy birthday" he said.

"Thanks. I love you" I said as I walked towards the kitchen.

"Love you more" he said as I heard his footsteps disappear upstairs.

I let out a small sigh as I walked into the kitchen. I sat in one of the kitchen stools and rubbed my face.

A faint knock on the front door dragged me out of my thoughts. I let out a loud groan as I jumped off the stool and walked over to it.

I opened the door slightly and widened my eyes as Richie stood there awkwardly with my backpack and bike.

"what are you doing here?" I whispered.

"I brought your backpack and bike" he said as he handed me my backpack.

I grabbed it and set it aside, "I thought you were angry... because of what happened earlier today."

He shrugged his shoulders, "you kind of helped my friends and I" He said, "Thank you for that" he said.

"There's a curfew" I reminded him.

"I'm bad" he joked.

I rolled my eyes as I stared at him for a while.

"Cole, who's at the door?" My father asked as his footsteps could be heard at the top of the stairs.

"Go around back, there's a tree. Climb it, it'll lead to my bedroom window" I said quickly as I closed the door in his face.
