The whistle was louder and shriller than anything I have ever whistled before. I put every single ounce of oxygen I had in my body into this single whistle, completely driven by the determination to live with my fellow comrades, I squeezed my eyes shut and bent my shoulders slightly as the whistle dragged on. Finally, when my oxygen ran out and the whistle dwindled into silence I opened my eyes while gasping for breath and was immediately greeted by a large group of Titans that have somehow surrounded me. Having completely forgotten the soldiers that they left shivering with fear on the nearby rooftops they surrounded me while I was entirely busy.
I curse underneath my breath,"Hi, guys! It's nice to see you..." I whisper eyeing each and every Titan carefully, but none of them move. They remain completely silent and still, excitement gleaming in their round eyes and their lips are pulled back to reveal those massive teeth. Inwardly, I shiver with fear, yet I know that there is no way I can turn back now especially since I happen to already be surrounded by the beasts. After a couple more seconds my breath is caught and I take this opportunity to lunge forward.
As soon as my body is moving the Titans lunge into action, their arms are swinging madly with no real purpose besides to attempt to catch me. Multiple pairs of arms pass over my head as my body hits a roof, instantly I tuck into a roll and bound to my feet sprinting with everything I got along the roof's slope. The Titans turn toward me as I dash away, their eyes gleaming with excitement as they run after me. Their arms are swinging at their sides, round bellies swaying left and right as they follow me. I'm fear stricken my body running on pure adrenaline, my eyes are wide as I hop onto another roof and continue my mad dash away from them.
"Are you all aberrants?!" I cry over my shoulder, my voice spiking in terror as I hop over a stray arm and crash into the wall of the next building. My body is crying out in pain, my ears are thrumming with the rhythm of my frantically beating heart and my mind is practically white with terror. I'm sliding down the wall, my fingers desperately clutching at the bricks in futile attempts to stop my descent. My mind suddenly sharpens, and I grab the hand grips of my maneuvering gear yanking them out of their holsters and pulling the triggers. I am yanked back up onto the nearest roof and without a moments hesitation I replace the hand grips and, with my arms pumping, dash along the roof.
I don't even dare to look behind me or even at my sides, not wanting to know how close they are to me only focusing on what was directly in front of me. My breath is coming out in short pants, but my body doesn't stop running. I can feel the vibrations of the Titans footsteps through the shingles can practically feel their hungry breath on my back, but I still can't bring myself to look behind me, to see if I'm close to my death or not.
"Keep moving, keep moving." I chant over and over again as I hop onto the next roof.
-Erwin's POV-
I heard it loud and clear, over the sound of sobbing soldiers and dying screams the whistle was carried to my ears and buried itself in my brain. My body seized up as I turn away from the two squad leaders in front of me, my eyes locking on the North where the source of the sound is. After about a minute, the whistle stops silence following it afterword. I can no longer feel the Titans steps vibrating the ground, the only sound is the sound of sobbing soldiers, the screams of mercy no longer ringing in the air. Squad Leader Mike Zakarius steps up next to me his nose tilted up into the air slightly as he inhales sharply. I raise an eyebrow at him silently asking him what he can smell, but he doesn't answer, he takes another whiff of the air and furrows his brow slightly.
"Did you guys he-" Hanji starts to ask before she is suddenly cut off by the sudden rumble of the Earth. It's no longer a simple vibration that alerted us of the movements of the Titans, it's more like all the Titans are now moving at once, stomping their feet against the ground. I stumble slightly before catching myself on a nearby light post.
"What is that!?" Hanji cries from where she is standing, clutching a sign post to her chest. Her eyes are wide behind her googles and she seems rather surprised.
"I'm not sure." Mike whispers as he takes another whiff of the air.
"Whatever it is, that whistle caused it," I say, my mind flashing to an image of Sakura which I quickly discard. Sakura is FINE she is with Levi and his squad they wouldn't allow her to do that without asking permission,"We need to find out what it is."
I pull my hand grips free from their holsters and grapple onto a nearby rooftop. Hanji and Mike join me shortly their bodies tense, prepared for battle. Mike tilts his head slightly,"This way!" He proclaims then grapples in the direction of the East side of town. I follow him quickly, my ice cold blue eyes examining every building and street for any signs of Titans, but I don't spot any, at least, not yet. My next breath is cut short when we round a cathedral, a large group of Titans are running, RUNNING, toward the East side of town. Every single one of them is dashing madly with gleaming eyes and practically drooling mouths after something I can't see.
"Prepare for battle!" I yell clipping swords into the hand grips and pulling the triggers that allow the cables to yank me in the direction of the running horde,"We must kill them while they are distracted! This is our chance!"
Hanji and Mike follow my orders almost instantly, grappling quickly and rushing toward the horde. Almost as soon as we reach the tail end of the group our swords are turned into flashes of silver which rip through the Titan's weak spot one after another.
