Fight for Love: Chapter 30

I was sitting twenty meters up in a fifty meter tree, my legs are dangling off the edge of the thick branch and just lazily swinging back and forth. My fingers pick at the bark around me and releases the small pieces of wood right over top the faces of numerous Titans. It was horrible sitting up here and just listening to the fading sounds of battle deep within the forest; I should be in there, galloping next to my squad, attempting to destroy this Female Titan. But I was only here because a stupid Squad Leader practically made me stop before I could enter the forest.

I was just about to enter the forest when a Squad Leader swung down from the trees and yelled at me to stop. Thinking something was wrong I pulled my horse to a stop and asked what was going on and of course the bastard yanked me from my mount and threw me toward the trees. He instantly demanded for me to help distract the Titans so they wouldn't enter the forest. Binding my anger I joined my fellow friends in the branches and just sat there.

Reiner, Jean, and Armin was standing on the tree across from me while Mikasa, Sasha and Connie stood on the tree behind me. I was honesty surprised to see so many of my friends here, within the branches with the Wings of Freedom on their backs, but decided not to question.

With a sigh I glance over at Jean, eyeing the troubled brunette with a cautious eye, I was shocked to see him and not Marco and for the past couple minutes I have pondered whether or not I should ask after my close friend. Finally scraping together my final strands of courage I call out to him,"Hey, Jean?" My tone is cautious and he glances over at me and by the look in his hazel eyes I can tell he knows what's coming,"Did Marco join the Military Police?"

The entire atmosphere that surrounded the tree he stood on changed. Even Reiner and Armin refused to look at me while Jean struggled to maintain his breathing, his eyes skittered around nervously,"No he..." He took a deep breath and looked down at a Titan,"He didn't join the Military Police." His tone is strained.

"The Garrison then?"

"No,"He takes a deep breath and finally turns to lock eyes with me, sorrow swims within the depths of his eyes,"He... Died when Trost was taken."

I inhale sharply, eyes wide and my fingers curl into the flesh of the tree,"No." My voice quivers with sorrow and unshed tears. I could scarcely believe that the Freckled Jesus had..... Departed from this world.

"Don't say another word!" The Squad Leader shoots from above me, my shoulders shake with sorrow and anger and.... disappointment. I was disappointed in myself on so many levels, I could have saved him if I was there sooner! He could still be with us!

"Sakura,"Jean whispers, I look up my eyes burning with anger,"Don't blame yourself, it's not your fault."

Reiner shakes his head,"Sakura, no one saw him die, it's no ones fault."

My breath came out in short angered gasps,"Still, I-"

"Didn't I say shut up!?" The Squad Leader barks from above me, his black eyes burning into mine.

I locked eyes with Reiner,"Don't." He breaths eyes bright with worry.

"Shut the fuck up!" He roars.

I snapped, all my pent up anger roaring forth within an instant,"You know,"I say tone dangerously low,"you're being louder than all of us."

He jumps onto my branch and glares at me,"Don't you dare speak like that to your higher up!"

I stand up and brush my hands together to get rid of any stray pieces of wood,"I don't see a responsible higher up anywhere. Do you happen to know where one is?"

His nostrils flare and he steps up into my face,"I am your higher up and you will obey me!" He roars in my face,"Shut the fuck up and do as you're told!"
