Fight for Love: Chapter 29

-Armin's POV-

"The first expedition is always the hardest." I remember Squad Leader Ness telling us that, he had his pointer clenched tightly in both hands and a faraway look in his eye and, just for a second, his smile slipped. He was remembering, we all knew it, but he quickly brushed it off and went back to teaching us the formation.

There was no doubt in my mind that this expedition wasn't going to be easy, I mean, when is an expedition ever easy? Not only that, but our class-the 104th Trainee Corps- witnessed it firsthand in Trost. And here we are, galloping through the wide spread plains of Wall Maria; I had a flare gun clenched fighting in my fist and my heart seemed to pound just a little bit harder every time I heard a birds wing flutter or one of the horses snort.

'Calm down' I scolded myself, and tried to loosen up my tense muscles to no avail.

A loud pop sounded from my right and in immediate response I flinch before I even glance at the black pigment that races out of the tree line. Placing a black flare into my flare gun I quickly relay the message and watch the shifting trees, Squad Leader Ness and Sys must have fired that flare since yet haven't regrouped yet.

The gnawing feeling of fear began to chew on my insides and with each minute that passed I fidgeted in my saddle just a little bit more. Finally, they came charging out of the woods with the ten meter Aberrant running in between them. The Aberrant was completely ignoring the pair and continued to run for the middle, it didn't even spare a glance at them. I hiss out, my eyes widening and muscles instantly locked up at the realization that this Aberrant is heading right for me.

Ness leaped from his saddle, swords drawn and cut the Titans Achilles Tendon; causing it to collapse to its knees. Sys then sprung upwards and delivered the killing blow with a flick of his wrists, relieve washed over me like a wave and a smile broke out on my face. What was I thinking? Of course, Ness wouldn't allow an Aberrant to get too far into the formation.

I was just about to turn my attention back towards the field of green grass that stretched before me when a flash of movement caught my eye. Jogging out of the woods was a fourteen meter Titan that seemed to have no skin and shoulder length blond hair; another Aberrant? I quickly reloaded another black flare and fired it, just as the Female type Titan sped up into a full out sprint. It slammed its foot down in between Ness and Sys then returned to it's jog.

No, it's not an Aberrant, I can already tell from here it's intelligent just like the Colossal or Armored Titans, just like Eren. It's a human controlling a Titan body, a Shifter. The urge to cry out a warning toward Ness died in my throat and with wide fear filled eyes I watched Sys and Ness race towards their deaths. The Female Titan grabbed Sys and squeezed him in her fist at the same time she yanked Ness's maneuvering gear cable from the her back and slammed the Squad Leader to the ground.

I cry out in shock and jerked my horses reins at the same time I kicked the mammal to try to get it to run faster. I could already feel the Titans presence at my back and I knew I was going to die, my hands fumbles with the other horses reins that were tied to my saddle and, once I got them free, I threw them at the mammal,"Go! Run!" I cry out, the horse went to veer off when the Female Titan slammed its foot down next to it and killed it. It sprung upward, it's foot directly over my head, I stared up at it into its eyes. What do they want?! I scream out in my head; the Female Titan's foot slams into the ground and instantly causes me to go flying from my horse, I cry out raising up my hands fly up too protect my head as I hit the ground with jarring force. My breath came out in short terrified pants and I kneeled there, shaking, and stared down at my hands.

It was there again, it's foot just feet away from me, it was kneeling next to me and I trembled with fear. I'm going to die, it's going to kill me just to kill me; not to eat. The fabric around my throat tightened and I felt my hood get pulled off of my head, cautiously, I raised my own head and stared into its eyes again. It seemed too search my face before releasing my hood and stand up to continue jogging North.
