Hanji was mortally destroyed after that, she walked into the old HQ dragging her feet behind her, her eyes were downcast face pale and the dark circles under her eyes stood out stark against her pale face.
"I don't....I didn't." She whispers, tone defeated, before collapsing into a seat like a lifeless doll.
It was only Levi and I in the large cafeteria untouched cups of tea sitting in front of us; both of us eyed the destroyed Squad Leader silently. Waiting for her to wail in grieve, but it didn't come, she continued to stare down at the table before her with slightly wet eyes.
I open my mouth cautiously, afraid that I'll say something to push her too tears,"Hanji." I whisper.
She doesn't look up, her shoulders shake slightly and my breath catches in my throat. I have been given the task to sooth the Squad Leader whenever she was forced to tears and because of that I have shirts to wash in the morning. She doesn't burst into tears like I feared, but she does whimper in despair.
"Come on, Hanji,"I coax gently, reaching forward to clasp one of her shaky hands in my own,"It's been three days now."
"I-I know." She rasps tone raw and choked,"I-It's just I-I loved Sawney and Bean like they were my own children."
"I understand." I whisper.
Levi clicks his tongue and sips at his tea,"Did they even fucking find the killers, yet?"
Hanji shakes her head, sadly,"No, but the killer isn't in the Trainee Corps. That much we know."
As soon as Sawney and Bean were reported dead, the Military Police and Garrison turned toward the Trainee Corps; believing one of the new recruits dared to murder the valuable test subjects. They stormed the barracks of the Trainee Corps and forced them to stand in rows, hands clasped behind their backs and their maneuvering gear sitting in front of each person on a little table. The Military Police questioned each person and found that nobody used the maneuvering gear when they weren't aloud too.
Instantly, everybody was thrown into disbelief and confusion, nobody understood where the murders could have come from. Theories and rumors swarmed, some saying that people from the underground did it, others said the officers of the Garrison themselves finished them off. Nobody knew who to question or where to turn, so the case was dropped just the previous night; much to Hanji's dismay.
Levi sighs,"Damned policemen don't know what they're doing."
Hanji looks up eyes moist,"If we don't find the killer we can't avenge their deaths."
"We'll find them,"I reassure her with a gentle smile,"Don't worry."
Hanji shakes her head,"I hope we'll find them." She murmurs, her eyes turn downcast.
Levi glares at her,"Hanji, you need to get your shit together before we go back to HQ tonight."
My thoughts about scolding Levi are swept aside and I perk up, eyes brightening at the thought of returning,"We're going back to HQ?!" I exclaim, half skeptical.
Levi turns his steely eyes on me,"Yes we are departing later on tonight."
I'm breathless, my mind whirling with excitement at being able to see Erwin again. It's been three days since I've last seen him and even longer since I've spoken with him. I was so lost in my own thoughts I didn't hear Levi calling me.
"Dammit, Sakura!" Levi slams his hands down in front of me, startling me out of my thoughts,"We are going for business and business only so don't you fucking dare try to get Erwin to yourself."
