I tucked my knees up to my chest as I leant against the dark oak tree at the bottom of my garden. I was reading The Hunger Games, Mockingjay. I could feel my eyebrows curve down as I chewed my nail and read the next page. I love the Hunger Games. I'd always read to stay away from reality but now, I'm living my perfect fairy tales.

The only reason I was at my own house because it's a Saturday today. From now on, I can live at Jake's house permanently with my Mums permission as long as I visit every Saturday. Of course, I agreed; Mums great and her boyfriend is the best cook in the whole world. Plus I love the comfort of my own bed sometimes.

I have massive news; Mums getting married in two weeks! Yeah. You heard me. She's already picked out her wedding dress and decided that Kellie, Becca and I were to be bridesmaids. I was happy for her, I just dispised the thought of wearing a dress. They just weren't me. I also don't particularly enjoy the thought of someone messing with my hair.

I also have some bad news, I have to be apart from Jake for a whole week now. He's going on some trip to the 'moonstone'. He has to travel there to find more answers on where John could be. I think it scares everyone not knowing where that sag of butts could be. Sorry, I just turned that serious moment into a humorous one.

But he did keep texting me. All his texts were adorable and extremely possessive. He kept asking me if I'd touched any males or if any guys had looked at me and that he'd kill them when he got back. I just kept replying with 'I'm fine' or 'don't worry'. I hope he trusted that I can fend for myself. I'm not a weak Alpha. Am I?

The day he gets back is my birthday. Whoo. Kellie might be shifting, she probably will because I'm a wolf. I guess that ruins her surprise. But she's been pumped all week last week so it's okay. Cole is trying to buy her something extra special. I told him designer shoes would grant him unlimited kisses for the rest of his life.

A brown acorn swiftly fell from my oak tree and plonked down onto my head. I complained mentally and rubbed my head with my free hand then looked up. Just a squirrel. Don't get me wrong, they're cute but really irritating. I could just strangle one but that would be animal cruelty. However, I'm half animal. Would that be cannibalism? No...I'd have to eat a wolf to be a cannibal. Cool.

"Emmy!" Mum called from the house "lunch is ready!"

I groaned and shoved my bookmark in my book. I put it in the hole of the oak tree; that's where I store a lot of my books. It's a secret hiding spot to keep them safe from grubby little fingers. I rose up to my feet and brushed off my black leggings. I heard my bare feet crunch the leaves below as I strolled up to the house.

When I got inside, my nose was bombarded with flavourous smells. Yummy. Mums boyfriend's been cooking something tasty. I think it's sausage pasta. I love sausage pasta. Please let it be sausage pasta. I sat down at the kitchen table and watched as Mums boyfriend portioned the food. I always got the biggest plate. Mum was busy ready the newspaper. Some lies about wolves immigrating to our country.

I frowned. What? I took the paper off Mum, she whined but I ignored her. My eyes darted to the text below. Wolves. Immigrating. Werewolves? Moving? John? Rogues? It fits together. What if John has more 'friends'. What if he had a backup plan? My breathing picked up pace as I threw the paper down and looked outside the glass door at the woods. I searched for any sign of life.

I kept scanning the woods. My body turned so I was facing the door full on. My fingernails dug into my palms as I kept looking for something I didn't want find. A cold shiver rushed up my spine. I felt something was wrong. In the woods. My eyes landed on a sleek black body perched in a tree. On my tree. Talons gripped the bark mercilessly and its piercing black eyes stared right into mine.
