"SHE'S DEAD" Eva shouted in my face.
I clenched my fists "I CAN BRING HER BACK!"
"THEY'RE LYING!" Eva screeched angrily and through a lamp at the wall, the glass bulb smashed into a million pieces.
"BUT WHAT IF THEY'RE NOT? THEY HAVE A SORCERER" I yelled back, ignoring the glass that was covering the bedroom floor.
Eva was turning red with fury "THEY'RE BAD EMMY. THEY KILLED NATHAN, AN INNOCENT HUMAN"
"I HAVE TO TRY" I screamed "I CAN'T GIVE UP ON HER."
"WHY NOT? SHE GAVE UP ON YOU ONCE BEFORE DIDN'T SHE?!" Eva shouted at the top of her lungs. That was a low blow, even for her.
Eva stopped screaming when she realised what she'd said. I sat back on the bed and screamed into a pillow with frustration. Eva's tired face crumpled up and she ran her hands through her hair.
"Emmy I'm sorry I-"
"Please leave" I told her tiredly.
Neither of us had slept. I'd shown her the note and after that, we ended up screaming at each other all night. Eventually, Kellie came in and broke up the fight. Eva and I didn't really get much sleep. After that, when Jake left for breakfast, Eva had stormed up to me and began our fight again.
"I just, I'm still sad about Nathan. I'm sorry, Emmy. But think of it like this; I don't even have a chance to bring him back" Eva mumbled before she left the room. I sighed and fell backwards, letting my body bounce on the trampoline bed.
Ugh. Eva just made me sound so cruel. Maybe she was right, but I just can't think straight. I really want Mum back. So does Kellie, really bad. I think that the fact that Kellie wants her too just makes me more desperate. I can't help it, if your Mum was dead and there was a chance to bring her back, you'd want to try wouldn't you? Even if it wasn't for your own benefit.
Think...should I meet up with whoever this person was? Or not? I don't know what to do. They could just be tricking me. But if I don't go, I'll never know of they could've healed my Mum. Sometimes I just wish Kellie could've been born first. However, that was a cruel thought, wishing my bad luck upon her is just mean.
Gurgling, my stomach signalled its hunger. I kicked my feet round the side of the bed and slid out lazily.
I dragged myself out the room, Eva was standing outside, her head in her hands. I didn't say anything to her; I didn't know what to say. Eva looked up at me as I walked on by. Her face fell into a frown which made me feel bad but then I remembered her harsh words.
I'll have to speak to her sometime, just not now. I'd rather talk later than face all my problems today. I'm not strong enough today. Today I'm partly broken. Weak.
Smelling the air, I notice a sweet tang. Obviously, it's coming from the kitchen so that's where I go. Jake is down there, he's smiling at me with his pearly, white teeth. I return his smile, only smaller and less enthusiastic. Sitting down on the stool beside him, I see where the smell came from. Jake handed me a plate of lemon and sugar pancakes. My favourite.
"I heard you and Eva fighting again this morning, did she say something bad? You look upset" Jake stroked my hair from my face and watched me as I dug into my breakfast.
I swallowed "Yeah"
"What did she say? Was it bad?" Jake pushed.
I swallowed another bite "Mhm"
"Do you want me to talk to her with you? Smooth things out" Jake asked kindly.
I finished pancakes in a few more hungry gulps "no"
