A New Avenger

At H.Q

The  ride was short before we were at the facility. As the helicarrier descended I felt fear well up inside me then all of a sudden a wave of calmness just rushed over me. That's new. As the helicarrier made touchdown I saw a shorter dirty blonde girl standing near us. As I got off I felt as if I was eager to see her. I jumped off quick and rushed to meet her. That is also new. Director Fury gave a slight chuckle and sped walk to where the girl and I were. Director Fury said "I see our newest recruit Cat has already been using her abilities on you. " I gave a puzzled look. "Abilities?" "Yes Cat here has the ability to control your emotions, not to mention she can shapeshift into a domestic cat." I glanced over at her and she gave a nice smile. Wow, a person like me. "Hey Director over here never let's me introduce myself. Here let me show you around" she said with a reassuring smile. I looked at Fury he gave an okay nod and I started to walk with Cat. "You'll like it here, Fury has told me so much about you, not to be creepy. Here we don't have to hide or explain ourselves, it's really open." She explained. Then before she could say anything else she looked at my eyes. "I'm sorry this is like really random but you have the bluest eyes I've ever seen." Feeling somewhat shy I looked away and simply said "thanks." She smiled and continued "When I first came here it was really weird, like they always want you to train, it gets annoying, but you get used to it." I looked over to her and without thinking I asked "wait, we get to use our abilities on a basis?" She laughed and said "of course" I felt as if I was really going to like it here. We walked down a hallway with rooms made of glass. Each one had someone practicing. I recognized a face. "Is that Black Widow?" Cat grinned and said "yeah she just came in yesterday, she won't say anything to me, I have no idea why." As she said that Black Widow turned around and saw me. I gave a timid wave and she smiled. She started to walk out the glass door and out to where we were standing. I think I'm about to meet an avenger. She walked to where we were standing she gave "the look" to Cat and she smiled at me. She stuck out her hand and said " Hi I'm Agent Romanoff, but you can call me Natasha." Trying to look professional I said "I'm Esme.she grinned and said " Yeah your the real buzz around here. Welcome to the team." I probably looked like an idiot right about now. She looked over at Cat and said "Please don't use your trippy crap on me. " Cat gave a slight giggle then suddenly Natasha said "I feel really thirsty" and with that she was gone. I was trying hard not to laugh and asked Cat "did you really just do that?" Cats face was a bright red and she nodded her head yes between laughs. I think I've just made a new best friend.

The tour continued until we made our way to our rooms. Yeah we're rooming together. We both sat down on the beds. " tomorrow Fury wants us up early." She said. Unamused I asked at what time. She said "around 9:30 we have a meeting at ten." I couldn't help but laugh "9:30 isn't that early Cat." She answered "Well for me it is." We laughed in sync. I glanced at my watch, it was 12:30 am. Not too late. We continued chatting about the facility until 1:00. Without warning Fury walked in. I hope he doesn't do that while I'm changing. He said it was time to hit the hay, that we are going to meet important people tomorrow. He also brought in my bag that I've had sense I was 10 with my name on it. "This is from your foster mom, she told us you are going to need it." I thanked him and he gave us a stern goodnight. I looked over at Cat, he mouth was hanging open. "  Oh my God Esme did you hear him!?! Important people! I'm so excited!" I gave her a look of excitement then directed my attention to the bag. I unzipped it to find all of my drawings, tons of extra clothes, and you know excetera. But at the bottom of the bag was a note which read " My dearest Esme, I'm glad you are finally at S.H.I.E.L.D. I hope you have a nice time and that you always be safe. The agents wouldn't tell me why you're there but I know my friend Fury will take good care of you. Don't worry I know we'll see each other soon. I know I'm not your real mother but I do love you like you are my real daughter. Good luck!! I'll always be with you.       With love, Mom. " it brought a smile to my face. I looked up to see Cat looking at me. She said "oh sorry, it's just your eyes are so blue." I smiled and said, "don't worry about it." I slipped into my comfy pants and a tee and jumped on my bed. I looked over at cat to see she did the same. She told me goodnight and shut the lights. I starred just for a moment at the dark ceiling and thought to myself. After 10 minutes I decided that I was too tired to think. I shut my eyes. Ready for the next day to come.
