A New Avenger

The First Mission

We ran quickly through the halls, passing people scurrying to their stations and computers. the wind hit me like a ton of bricks as soon as the glass door opened to get outside. The smell of exhaust filled my nose. Thor hopped in first and held out his hand to help Emilie and I on. I grabbed his huge hand as he pulled me up. I looked around and saw the rest of the 'New/old Avengers' already suited up and strapped in their seats, except one, Cat. I tried to keep myself together as the helicopter slowly began to rise. Everyone was silent until Thor began in an annoyed tone "excuse me if I sound rood but Do we even know where they are?" Fury gave him 'the look and said "Well I'd hope so if we're all sitting in this huge flying machine." Thor gave a loud sigh and looked the other direction. I sat staring out the open side of the helicopter. How could Cat do this? I thought she was my friend. If she was my true friend she wouldn't have gone on the other side.

Natasha motioning to Thor blurted out "Not to be like muscle head here but where are we going Sir." Fury looked over at her and said "Weere going 20 minutes west from here. It seems Loki and Cat have been recruiting scientists from the lab. My theory is Loki wants to make another portal, but honestly we don't know." He paused then began again " Now, New Avengers, I know you all haven't had much training together but we need to work as a team. I need each and every one of you to do what you have to do to keep each other safe. " The way fury spoke, it sounded like he was... I don't know... Different. He sounded like he was angry but also guilty. He should be guilty, he didn't listen to my worries, my theories, my concerns. Interrupting my thoughts the helicopter began to decend to the roof of a building. I looked at the rest of the girls in my group, each one of them had a pale face and a nervous look on their faces. I felt anger begin to surge through me. I used to never get this angry before S.H.I.E.L.D. I finally felt the bump that signaled we landed. Steve got up first and began to give orders "Emilie, you and Tony go scope up top see if you can see them leaving." As he finished Emilie jumped off the helicopter turned into a bird while Tony flew next to her. I forgot she could shape-shift... Steve continued "Danielle you and hawkeye find an entrance from up here." Clit and Danielle hopped off and began to inspect the roof we were on. "Mackenzie, you and I will try to get inside, we can use your abilities to confuse them. Dr. Banner, I need you to stay calm, just for now, Ill give you the signal when to suit up. Esme, if Clint and Danielle can't find an entrance you and Thor make one. Have Natasha come with you" We got up, Thor and Natasha went in front, on the way out Steve stopped me and looked me in the eye and said "We need you in the inside, you may be the only person that could talk some sense into her." I nodded to signal I understood and walked behind Thor. Dr. Banner stayed in his chair next to Fury, which strangely didn't give orders today. I wonder why Steve didn't want Dr. Banner to help.

We ran up around the top searching for an entrance. The building had a flat roof with nothing on it. Thor seemed he was getting frustrated and yelled "Enough of the simple searching. I'm getting in NOW! As he screamed now he lifted mijolnir and hit the roof with a big boom. A hole broke through. He and Natasha jumped in. I guess they forgot about me. I decided to use my abilities to jump from this high. I closed my eyes and thought of water. I know I could've just used air, but water was always my favorite and was easiest to use. Next thing I knew a huge wave if water came rushing down the roof and stopped around me. I motioned it with my hands to surround me and slowly lower myself in. Once my feet hit the ground inside the building I motioned it to go away. I figured my clothes were wet but they were completely dry. I looked around until I saw Thor and ran over. As soon as I got next to him he motioned to all the unconscious people on the floor and began "It seems they were through here. Let's split up. Esme, You check downstairs. Natasha look upstairs as I will search the rest of this floor. I nodded and began to run. I scurried down the stairs, of course tripping but not falling. I looked around I saw more unconscious people and I saw one man standing, it was Loki. I froze for a moment until he began "Dear Esme, is it just you? Where's my oaf brother that so called loves you?" He had that stupid grin on his face. I felt rage and yelled back "Shut up Loki, Where is she?" Ignoring my question he walked over to me until he was not even a foot away from me. He began " you know, you could still join me. We could be a team, you, me , and Cat." I gave a fake laugh and said "Yeah you wish Loki. I'm not afraid of you." His face tensed up and his hand shot up out of no where and grabbed my throat. He lifted me up and said in a harsh tone "Don't play that card with me. You and I both know that you fear me." I felt his hand tightening around my neck. I was struggling to breathe. I tried yanking his fingers off but the lack of air was affecting me. He continued "Oh, and by the way, if my brother truly loved you, he wouldn't send you alone. To die." That was it. I felt rage like never before. Next thing I knew my body lit into flames I grabbed Loki's wrist with my flaming hands. He yelled and let go. I hit the floor with a thud but shot right back up. Loki was on the floor I clenched  my fist to hit him but I felt a muscular arm grab me by the waist. I looked behind me, it was Thor. Was he really saving him?! I looked back at Loki, he gave a grin and disappeared. Another one of his stupid tricks. The flames went out and I felt weak. Thor grabbed me and said "Esme, can you hear me?" I felt my eyes heavy and I was seeing double. Thor had a worried face as he shook my head in his hands and said "Esme!" I couldn't stay awake anymore. I slowly shut my eyes. Everything went dark.
