Captain woke up to the sounds of shouts and screams. She tried to sit up but her head hurt and when she breathed her lungs hurt to. She looked around and realized she was outside. A woman wearing a hivz jacket stood over her talking in her ear.
"Hello luv can you hear me?"
Captain ignored her and sat up. To her left her parents were being held back by police. Her farther was shouting until he was blue and her mum was crying and screaming until she looked like she might pass out. She noticed that she was surrounded by ambulances, police cars and fire trucks. Confused she looked to where her house was. By her front gate stood neighbors and firemen. She let out a cry and jumped to her feet. The house was on fire! Fire blazed across the ground floor windows and smoke rose far above the roof. She ran over to the gate stumbling as she went.
"John...What..happened?" She asked her neighbor gasping though the pain in her lungs.
He started explaining to her what was going on but she wasn't listening. She was looking. She looked at the ambulances and the crowed of people but she couldn't see them. her eyes glanced at her parents who were still screaming and shouting.
"Why are they so upset over the house?" She interrupted John.
Captain looked at his face and she realized what was going on. She pushed away from John and ran through the crowd of people. Barging past firemen she ran through the gate and through the open front door.
Fire and smoke consumed her as she entered the burning building. She chocked and coughed and made her way towards the stairs through the thick smoke. Her eyes watered and lungs burned but she had to keep going. The stair case came into view and she clambered up on her hands and knees as fast as she could. One thing she learnt from fire safety was that the closer you were to the ground better the air was. The wooden stair case was hot and burned at her hands. Ignoring it she gritted her teeth and carried on upstairs. She reached the landing and headed down the hall.
"Cyrus! Flower!" She shouted as hard as she could bear.
As she stepped forward a piece of flooring gave out from under her. She tripped and quickly untangled her boot from the wood. Through the hole she could see what use to be the kitchen. Now the entire thing was engulfed in flames. She scrambled to her feet and carried on steadily but quickly down the hall.
"Flower!...Cyrus!" Her voice was hoarse now and she couldn't breath properly.
Her door was in reach now. She stumbled forward and banged on the door. She listened as muffled bangs and voices came from the other side. She breathed a sigh of relief.
"Captain? Can you hear us?" Cyrus shouted through the door.
"Yeah I can it's gonna be OK you here me! I'm trying to find the key now!" She shouted back tears in her eyes.
She felt in her pockets and almost broke down. The key was in the kitchen. She banged her head against the door.
"Fucking shit! Listen the keys gone but you're gonna have to move away from the door!....I'm gonna break it open!" Captain shouted through the door.
"OK! But before you do...We love you sis..." Cyrus shouted.
"Yeah we do..." Flower piped up.
"I love you too..." She replied smiling.
She heard moving and the sound of coughing get fainter. She readied herself and barged her shoulder into the door. She did it over and over again until the door began to give way.
"One more time..." She said to herself.
She went a little further back and was about to run when someone grabbed her from behind. She spun round and saw John with a handkerchief covering his mouth. He grabbed her and began dragging her back to the stairs.
"No! No! They're still in there! They're still in there! No! We have to help them! Please! Please! I can't leave them! I need them! Please! Please!" She screamed over and over and over again.
***
She was dragged out of the house kicking and screaming and fighting. Twice she got away and ran back to the house before somebody grabbed her again. In the end they had to sedate her. She spent the next few months in therapy with anorexia, schizophrenia, depression and attempted suicide. Never in her time there did she stop blaming and hating John for what he did...and now...she wanted revenge....
