Charlie sat and watched Captain. She didn't move once she finished the story. She carried on staring at the stars. Of course Charlie and the girls sort of knew what had happened but she hadn't heard what had happened in this much detail.
"Captain...." Charlie said softly.
When Captain turned to look at her Charlie could see she was crying.
"It's all my fault....Isn't it...." Captain said almost in a whisper.
"What is? The car accident?"
"No...." Captain opened her locket and looked at the pictures, "Them..."
"What! Captain no! Of course that wasn't your fault. John dragged you away and nobody did anything but you! Of course it wasn't you." Charlie said stubbornly making Captain face her.
"Charlie...I started that fire...I locked them in that room..." Captain sutured in between sobs.
"C you couldn't have started that fire you fell asleep?" Charlie questioned not sure how she could have caused that fire.
"But I did Charlie!...I was so tired...I left the cooker on by accident...It set a tea towel on the side on fire Charlie....And earlier that day....my dad had been fixing his car...he left a petrol canister on the side....he had lost the lid.....and when I was in the kitchen....I knocked it over..." She stumbled crying harder.
Charlie pulled her into a hug and held her hard.
"The tea towel...It was by the canister....the liquid set on fire and caused a explosion...It caused the house to shake waking my parents but something on a shelf above my head fell on me.....knocking me out....I started that fire Charlie!.....I killed them!...." Captain cried in between sobs.
Holding her tight she rubbed her back while her best friend cried. For someone to spend the last few years thinking that they caused the death of their own family must be horrible!
Charlie held her for the next few hours until Captain went back to sleep. Charlie slept with her and they stayed outside until someone came to find them in the morning.
