Chapter 20

*Namjoon's POV*

Why the fuck was he here? 

Wait, that's not important right now. I just need to keep him away from Bora. I was on my way back downstairs when I saw him having a chat with my father. 
"Where is this mate of your then?" he asked. 
"Um, she's just taking a shower" I lied, my heart exploding in my chest. 
"And you're not going to join her?"

Great! Now his put that thought in my mind. I really didn't need to be aroused right now, all I needed was to keep Bora safe. 
"No, she likes her privacy"
"When I first met my mate that sure as hell didn't stop me" 
"Well, I respect her!" I snapped, I could feel myself starting to shift. 
"Namjoon, calm yourself down, we're going to get ready for tonight, you need to be in the dining hall by seven," said my dad, placing his hand on my shoulder. 
"What's the occasion" 
"You're very funny, no wonder Jin's your best friend".

Crap! Jin! It was his birthday! I was so caught up with Bora I'd totally forgotten. He was my best friend, and I'd forgotten his birthday. Thank god I hadn't seen him yet today, and for the first time, I was so grateful. 

"I'll be there," I said, turning away from them. Now I needed to get Bora. 

I returned to Honggi's room to collect my baby girl. 
"Are you alright?" she asked when I arrived. She was just too sweet. I'd abandoned her with a man she doesn't know and when I returned she only wanted to know if I was alright. I love her. 
"Yes, but I need to speak to you" 

We arrived back at my room and I was mentally preparing myself to ask her one of the biggest questions she'd ever face. 
"Can I mark you?" I asked, desperately needing her to agree. 
"What do you mean?" she questioned, sitting on the bed. 
"Marking is like a promise. It means you fully except your mate and you want to be with them for the rest of your life. A werewolf has never been mated to a human before, but I'm assuming it will turn you into a werewolf".
"But we just met yesterday, I'm sorry but I don't fully except you yet"
"What do you mean?" I shouted. I didn't mean to sound so angry, but it was my wolf, he couldn't understand. 
"I'm sorry, but I've only known you a day," she muttered, clearly scared. Seeing her so vulnerable forced me back to reality. 
"I'm so sorry, baby girl, I didn't mean to shout. I just want you to be safe". 

I carefully approached her, not wanting to frighten her further. Once I was close enough, I swept her into my arms, cradling her like the precious flower she was. 
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to shout" I whispered, her head in my hand against my chest. 
"What do you mean: keep me safe"
"I don't want to scare you"
"Just please tell me" she whispered desperately. 
"Griffin doesn't like humans, if he finds out that you're human, he'll hurt you, maybe even kill you. I can't let that happen to you, you're too important to me". 

She looked up at me, right into my eyes. 
"I'm sorry, but I can't let you turn me into a werewolf," she said so innocently that I almost melted on the stop. 
"Babygirl, I need you to be safe. I can't tell Grifin you're my mate, I can't lose you"
"I'm sure there are other ways, I don't want to be a werewolf". 

It angered me that I couldn't take the single course of action which I knew had the best chances of saving her. I didn't know for sure that marking her would turn her into a werewolf, but this was the best idea I could think of. I didn't know how else to protect her. Grifin was the Alpha of the pack next door, the single most powerful pack in the world. He was known for being ruthless; for killing any human who crossed his path. I'm surprised he didn't kill Bora when I told him she was a slave, he knew we kept some human slaves, but the last time he visited he killed most of them. I wouldn't let him near my baby girl. 

We were getting ready for Jin's birthday party tonight. Bora was in the corner, curling her hair delicately, whilst I was already ready and playing on my phone. 
"I need you to do me a favor," I said, sitting up to face her. 
"You're not turning me into a werewolf"
"No, I'd never do that unless you were certain that was what you wanted. I need you to pretend you're a werewolf and were attacked by humans. That would allow an excuse for the scent on you"
"Excuse me?"
"No baby girl, you smell beautiful. God, you have no idea how good you smell," I said pausing for a minute to relish her scent, "but werewolves have a really strong sense of smell. They're able to tell when humans apart from werewolves"
"Okay, I can pretend I'm a werewolf," she said happily, letting the last curl drop on her shoulder. 

At six fifty-five, she stepped out of the bathroom, hair, and makeup flawlessly done and wearing the single most gorgeous dress I'd ever seen. It was red, blood red, and lacey. The sleeves were single sheet lace with flowery patterns, but at the bodice, a red lining was joined. Thank god. I don't think I could survive if it was pure lace, she'd be the death of me. A silk belt was tied dramatically around the inward of her waist with a dramatic bow at the back. It accentuated her hips to the point where I was weak at the knees. The skirt of the dress was a solid color, but still the same blood red of the rest of the dress. It ended just above her knee allowing me to see her legs which ended at the point of a pair of matching stilettos. She looked amazing. No, that wasn't the word, she looked impeccable.

We walked downstairs hand in hand. 
"Remeber you're a werewolf" I whispered in her ear as we reached the last step and entered the dining hall. We walked straight up to Jin, saying hello to everyone we passed. 
"Happy birthday," exclaimed Bora giddily, letting go of me and wrapping her arms around Jin. An uncontrollable growl rumbled from my throat before I snatched Bora back to my side - where she belonged. 
"Happy birthday" I grumbled, stroking Bora's hair out of her face. It wasn't that I didn't trust him, I did, with my life, but I had the urge to not let Bora touch anyone of the opposite sex. She was mine. 

After talking with Jin for a while, the last person I wanted to speak to approached us. Grifin.
