Chapter 24

I tell my mom about the date, brush my teeth, then go to my room & I lock the door, then turn to see Jack peering in the window. I smile as I open it to let him come in.

"Date's not over yet," he says. I turn on my music so my mom can't possibly hear us through the walls as tingles invade my stomach.

"When I Look At You," by Miley Cyrus comes on. Jack gives me his hand, smiling. I can't help but wonder what's going to happen.

He pulls me to the middle of the floor & puts his hands around my waist. Naturally, I put my arms around his neck, & we start dancing. I feel my smile grow as we dance. It's magic.

The song finishes, & we go sit on my bed.

"That was fun," I say, looking into his green eyes.

"I just hope you didn't mind my bad dancing," he says.

"Nah i'm the bad dancer," I laugh.

"No, movement comes beautifully to you," He brushes a strand of hair out from my eyes then leans in to kiss me.

The next morning I wake up snuggled up to Jack. I smile, happy that we can simply sleep together, no sex needed. He's still sleeping & I don't wanna wake him up, but my mom is going to wanna come in to say goodbye before work. She'll be suspicious if I have the door locked. I look at my alarm clock to see it's 7:13, my mom will probably wake up at about 8. There's plenty of time but still I don't wanna risk it.

I just lay there taking everything in. Jack & I are finally together. My parents getting a divorced. My dad may end up in prison. School's almost done, so there's a lot of tests. Wow a lot is going on.

At 7:30 I glance at Jack to see his eyes quickly close. "You've been up!" I say.

"Yup," he chuckles. "But I don't wanna leave."

"My mom's gonna come in about 8-ish."

"There's a perfectly good closet." It's my turn to laugh. "You know, when you laugh, it seems like all the world's problems go right away. It's beautiful."

"You're so sweet." We lay in bed for a bit, til I kick Jack out. He goes to hide in the closet as I unlock my door. About 5 minutes later my mom gives a small knock then walks in.

We talk for a few minutes. Tomorrow we have to go to the final trial, then the jury will decide his fate. & the divorce is official, Mom is a free woman now. Then we say goodbye so she could go to work.

"Trial tomorrow huh," Jack says as he steps out of the closest.

"Yeah. I can't wait to get this whole thing over with." "I bet." We hang out for a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I love having him here, but I didn't expect him to spend his saturday with me. It's really nice.

"Wanna go anywhere?" I ask.

"Wanna go out for lunch?" I nod & we leave.

We go to a chinese restaurant. Afterwards, we get back in his car.

"How bout we go to the mall? I can show you off, " Jack says. I grin & nod. All the way there he has his hand on my leg.

We walk in, his arm around my waist. It's a busy day. We see Rob & some other of Jack's friends so we walk over to them.

"You finally got a good woman, way to go," Rob says, hitting Jack in the arm.

"Yeah well," Jack says, smiling. We all hang out for a while.

"Well hello there," Jen says as she & Jeff walk over to us.

"Hey welcome to the party," another of Jack's friends, Daniel, says. Jeff talks to them & Jen comes over to me.

"You & Jack official huh?"

"Yeah, well," I say, smiling.

"Now we all have a boyfriend!" Jen says happily.

"You & Jeff have gotten that serious?" Jen & Jeff both don't do the whole relationship thing, so go figure.

"Yup," she smiles.

"Good." We all talk for a little while more than Jack & I leave.

"I guess I gotta figure out what i'll wear tomorrow," I moan when I get in his car.

"Try not to be too sexy."

"Sexy in the courthouse," I say laughing, & he grins.

He drops me off at the apartment & leaves. I go to my closet to find something to wear for tomorrow. I settle for a long black skirt, pink blouse, & black over jacket. Not too sexy.

It's not too long til I hear a knock on the door.

"Hey, havn't seen you much since you & Jen got together." I say, opening the door for Jeff to come in.

"Likewise for you & Jack."

"Hey we only had our first date last night!"

"Yeah well," he says as he sits on the couch & turns on our new tv. I ignore his words & sit next to him. We chill for a while til he has to go get ready for his date with Jen that night.

Finally alone. It's strange, it's both comforting & yet uncomforting at once. I look out my window to see the empty playground. I smile as I grab my phone & leave the apartment.
