The next morning I take the car to school. I put on the radio to hear "Good Girl" by Carrie Underwood start. One of my favorite songs, so I sing along.
"He's no good, girl, no good for you, you better get to getting on your goodbye shoes.."
School ends up pretty good that day. I explained things about Jack to the girls, & their excited to hear what happens. That makes all of us. After school I was looking for Jack but couldn't find him, but I did bump into Jeff.
"So are we over???" He asks giving a puppy face.
"It's probably best we stop," I giggle.
"Aw damn." I end up driving him home.
When I get to my own home, I see my father's car. I feel the urge to drive away, but this is my home too, so I go in.
He looks up from his newspaper.
"Emma."
"Father." He gets out of his chair & walks to me.
"Your mom & I have been discussing things."
"Finally getting divorced???" I instantly regret saying the words. He gives a smug look as he smacks me.
"No. But we may be sending you to boarding school." My eyes widen. My whole life is here. He gives an evil look. "It would stop you with this whole cheating thing. Unless you drop it, boarding school it is." I run upstairs to my room. I can't believe it. I'm screwed either way, it seems. I text Catherine & tell her. She is pretty pissed.
'We have got to come up with a plan' She texts.
'Like???'
'Proof.' So we started planning. We were gonna follow him the next time he goes out & get ourselves some proof.
The saturday a couple days later, we drive to his work. We see him go to his car & he drives off.
"Ready???" Catherine asks.
"Ready." She switches her car gears & begins driving, while putting some distance between his car & ours. He drives into a neighborhood so we slow down some. He pulls into a driveway & gets out of the car with some flowers. I get my phone ready to take pictures. He knocks on the door & the same woman as I saw last time opens, all smile. He bends down & kisses her. I quickly take a picture. Yes! He gives her the flowers then they go inside. I guess they've just been eating there since I caught them, because they don't come out again.
"This all the proof we need???" I ask, showing Cathering the picture. She nods.
"Perfect." We go to my house, hoping my mom is there. She is.
"Mom, I have to show you something," I say as we walk in. I show her the picture.
"Y-you were right," she studders, tears filling her eyes.
"I wish I wasn't." I hug her.
"I'm so sorry I didn't believe you," she whimpers.
"I'm sorry Dad doesn't treat you right." She pulls back.
"We're moving out."
"Shouldn't it be him moving???" I ask.
"Too many memories. Besides, he's too hard headed he'll never leave."
So Mom goes to the attic to find some empty boxes, then gives them to me.
"You can live with your father, if you want. He hurt me, not you." For a moment I wonder if I should tell her he's hurt me too.
"No i'm with you Mom." She tears up some more & we hug again.
"This is obviously not enough boxes, so i'll go get some more tomorrow. In the meantime go ahead & start packing. I'll start searching for any apartments." Catherine & I go to my room.
Soon as we get in, she hugs me.
"What was that for???"
"Cuz, you're my best friend. I know when you're about to cry." She's right, I start to cry. I cry for a bit.
"I guess I should start packing." She nods & helps me pack. I love my best friend.
There isn't enough boxes so I still have plenty to pack for tomorrow. I go to my mom's room to see her crying. I go over & hug her.
"I know i've said this already, but i' so sorry for not believing you. He was convincing me that we should send you to boarding school."
"I know, he told me that if I dropped the whole thing I wouldn't have to." She looks up in my eyes.
"You're the best daughter I could ever have. I'm so proud to call you mine." We both cry a bit more til Catherine walks in.
"I just talked to my mom, & she says it's cool if y'all spend the night at our house. We know you probably don't wanna face him tonight."
"That would be amazing, thanks," my mom says giving a smile. We fill our suitcases then leave to her house.
