I stretch my arms & yawn, realizing I must have fallen asleep. I look over at my clock to see that it's 8:25 pm.
I pull out my phone to see no new messages, then I go downstairs.
"Well look who's up?" My mom says as she puts some plates down at the table.
"I'm not too late for dinner?"
"Nope we were just about to eat." I take my place at the table as my father walks in & sits across from me. Dinner has been awkward for a while now, & I don't expect that to change anytime soon
After dinner I finish homework, then get ready for bed. I hear a knocking on my window so I peek out of the curtain. I see Jeff & I smile as I open the window for him to climb in.
"I was in the neighborhood so I decided to drop on by," he explains. For the next 30 minutes, all we do is play Uno.
"Damn it," I say as I throw my cards at the floor when Jeff wins.
"Good sportsmanship," he remarks.
"It is, indeed." I grin, thinking about how all in a short amount of time Jeff's become a best friend to me. Definitely makes me feel better without Jack in my life anymore.
We say good night, & I watch him as he climbs down the tree. Good guy, that Jeff is.
