Raelynn is your typical nerd. Straight A's and an art student. And to add to it, thick rimmed glasses and braces.
Marcus is Raelynn's Best Friend. But the catch is, he is the school's most popular boy. He's known for his amount of girlfriends and b...
I slowly climbed from my bed, dreading today. I went to my bathroom, rubbing my eyes, glancing at my appearance. My curly hair was sloppily up in a ponytail and my make up was smeared across my face because I forgot to take it off last night. I groaned, leaving, heading to the kitchen. I entered and there sat my sister with my mom. They were talking about college.
"Good morning sweetie." My mom greeted me. I groggily nodded my head, getting a box of cereal.
"Oh! Don't eat. We are waiting for dad then we're going to iHop." Claire told me. I sighed, putting it back. I sat down, closing my eyes, wanting to go back to bed.
"Rae, I talked to one of your teachers last night." My mom said. I opened one eye, looking at her. When ever she talked to my teachers, it was to make sure a B was the correct grade. "She called me." She said. I opened both eyes, confused.
"And?" I asked. She smirked, pulling out her phone. She showed me a picture from her old Instagram account, that for some reason she still had.

There was the caption "She makes me smile! @maria.kate"
"This ja Mrs. Clark and I in high school." She said. I stared at the picture, amazed. I could clearly see my mom on the left with blonde ends and my teacher on the right with her dark brown hair. "She's coming today. Her husband was your dads best friend for a while before they moved after we got married." My mom explained. I nodded, trying to think about having my teacher at a social event.
"How about you go get dressed. We'll be leaving soon." Claire said breaking the silence. I nodded, going upstairs. I entered my room, and scanned my closet. Eventually I chose some high waisted denim shorts with a shirt that had a pair of glasses on the top left with the word "nerd" written in cursive. I got dressed and did my hair in a messy bun and my make was a very natural look. I put on my black converse and grabbed my small black leather backpack and my phone before leaving. I found my family in the living room. My mom was wearing a nice sun dress while my dad was wearing his military uniform. Claire was wearing a pink crop top with high waisted jeans and converse.
"There you are." My dad smiled at me. His smile was also hiding bits of pain. He loved his job, but hating being deployed. My parents have talked about moving before, but we always found a reason not to. His dark brown eyes didn't shine as bright, and his posture wasn't as confident. I could tell my mom noticed, because she showed the same emotions as my dad. They have always been like that. If my dad was upset, my mom was too. Always.
"Okay! Let's go." Claire cheered, clapping her hands. I nodded, heading to the door. My dad wrapped his arm around my shoulders, placing a gentle kiss to my head.
"I love you kiddo." He whispered. I grinned, looking up at him. He was probably my super hero. He always put on a happy face, even though I saw past his mask. He always put has first, and one day I hope to find someone like him.
