At school on Monday, everyone cheered for our team, and it was a pretty chill day.
As I walk to third period, I can't help but smile at the freshmen who were starting to ask people to their spring fling coming up in a few weeks.
Every year, our school hosts a Spring Fling just for freshman. It was always a tradition, kinda like prom for the seniors.
I entered my history class, to find Mrs. Clark at her desk typing away on her computer. She looked up and smiled at me as I took my seat in front of Naomi. Marcus strolled in, just as the tardy bell rang.
"Marcus. That's the third one. You have lunch detention today." Mrs. Clark reprimanded.
"Ugh. Fine." He groaned, sitting down beside me. "I didn't even know I had two." He whispered in my ear when Mrs. Clark began to teach. I rolled my eyes, paying attention.
"So. I'd hate to do this, but we have a major test tomorrow, and yes, I'm giving y'all a free day, but I recommend y'all spend it studying." She told us before going back to her desk.
"Oh, and congratulations to the football team on the championship title again. The last time we got that, I was a senior." She said, and everyone erupted into cheers.
"So, y'all want to come over to my house and study. My moms been busy with her store things recently. Ima here she won't be home." I ask my friends once everyone's quieted down.
"Yeah. I can come. I have nothing to do." Marcus shrugged, looking at Naomi.
"Sorry. Luke and I have plans. Plus, I need to deal with the CPS thing." She rolled her eyes, before locking eyes with Marcus.
"Oh. It's fine. Figure anything out?" I ask, opening my phone.
"Yeah, turns out my dad has to sign a whole bunch of papers to allow him to stay with me, and I they find his mom, she has to do the same. If I want to become his legal guardian, I have to go to court." She shrugs, a slight frown appearing.
"Well, it could be worse. At least all they have to do is get signatures for him to stay with you." I say weakly. She nods, trying to hide her pain.

"Finally!" I exclaim, leaving the building. I have my most recent test from Science in my hands, and I'm itching to look at the grade. Science is not my strong suit, and I'm always a nervous reck looking at my test grades.I slowly open it, and there on the front of the page sits a 64. I stare, unable to believe my grade. I flip through the pages trying to find the questions I missed, until I see a bright red 100 on the back page with a note from my teacher telling me she got me.
"Hey Lynnie. Ready to go?" Marcus asks me as he struts up to me. He's covered in sweat from his laps in athletics.
"Yep. I say, shoving my test into my bag.
