Samantha Johnson's P.O.V.

I was walking by the court, seeing the basketball players practice. Soleia went to the art room to draw while Zach has other people to hang out with. I proceeded to head to the library, already needing to finish the three assignments that was given yesterday. Second day of school and it's already hell. I entered the library, seeing all the tables filled. Except for one. I looked at the curly haired basketball MVP, seeing that he's reading a book. I scrunched my eyebrows. Well, this is something new. I just ignored it and tried to look for a book for chemistry. I grabbed a book and looked around. Right. Every table is full. I looked at the tables then back at Jack. I debated whether this would be a good thing or not. Jack Avery. He has a reputation in this school for being the varsity player in basketball. It's rumoured that he's a player. Not that I believe it but, I'd rather not be part of it. He then put a pair of glasses, looking closer at the book. I walked over and tapped him lightly, "Mind if I sit with you?"

"Sure." He said. I sat down, giving him his space and focus on my chemistry book. Right. Time to get this done.

"What's your name?" He asked. I looked up, giving him a glance before returning to my book.

"Sam." Was my only reply.

"That's a nice name."

"Thanks. What's yours?" I asked, even though I already knew. I don't want to come off as a stalker.

"Jack." He said.

"Cool." End of conversation. Or so I thought. Thirty minutes passed and I just stared at the book. It's not that I don't understand it, I'm just not in the mood to study yet.

"Want to get out of here?" I looked up, seeing the curly haired boy without his glasses.

"'Out of here'?" I repeated.

"Yeah. Out of here." He shrugged nonchalantly.

"You want me to skip school?" I whisper-asked, shocked. He then shrugged his shoulders. I smiled, "Sure."

"Okay." He smiled before we returned the books. We then got out of the library and sneak out to his car.

"Nice." I said, eyeing his black vehicle.

"Thanks." He then opened the car door for me. I got in, playfully mocking him, "What a gentleman."

He chuckles before getting in the driver's seat. He turned the keys, the engine roaring to life.

"Where are we going?" I asked, looking out the window.

"I was thinking the mall or movies." He said, giving me a glance before diverting his attention back to the road. "So. Tell me about you."

"You first." I insist.

"No, you."

"You first." I repeated, pressing him on.

"You." I sighed.

"I'm Sam. Short for Samantha Johnson. I like basketball and badminton. I'm one of the topnotchers in our room but I can be lazy as fuck. I'm one of the boys. And... I'm craving for ice cream." I chuckled at the end. "Now, it's your turn."

"I like to read and draw. People typically think I'm a player, but I'm really not. I play basketball and soccer but I like soccer better. I'm also lazy as fuck and I like to watch movies and play video games." We stopped in front of a cinema, him looking at me, "Let's go?"

I nod before we got out of the car. We walked in the venue, checking out different movies.

"What movie genre do you like the most?"

"Horror. But if there's none, I can go for action or comedy." I said, him giving me a weird look, "Not a big fan of romance."

"I can tell." We chuckled before we get to the ticket line.

"Ooh! Kingsman!" I said, pointing at the movie I've been wanting to watch.

"Sure." He said as we get to the front line.

"Two tickets for Kingsman." I said cheerily. I grabbed my wallet, opening it.

"No, I got it." He said, paying for the cashier.

"Well, I got the food." I said, heading over to the foodbooth. I bought some popcorns and two drinks. He tried to pay me back but I declined. "You paid for the tickets, I pay for the food."

"You sure?" He asked.

"Well, I already paid for it." I said, walking to cinema 1. Jack followed, handing the guy our tickets to let us in. We got in our seats as the movie started. He smiled, making me tilt my head, "Why are you smiling?"

"No reason." He replied. I turned my attention back to the screen as the movie started playing.

~Next morning~

I woke up, finding a text from Jack. I opened it to see different jumbled letters that didn't make any sense. When school finished, I got worried because Jack didn't show up.

Jack Avery's P.O.V.

I looked at myself in the mirror, black imprint around my left eye. I went home last night way past my curfew, and, as a result, my dad got mad. My dad's an alcoholic and he's been that way for a long time. He gets abusive when he drinks. That's why last night, my dad punched me and whipped me with his belt; the reason why I'm in a condo apartment. My dad kicked me out. It wasn't long when I heard a knock on the door. I looked through the peephole and saw Sam. I opened the door and her eyes instantly widened, "Oh my fucking god! What happened to you?!"

"Nothing. Don't worry about it. Come in." I said, trying not to discuss about the events last night. She entered the room and I closed the door. "Nothing?! What the hell do you mean by that?! You have a bloody black eye, and you say it's nothing?!"

"It could be worse." She looked me dead in the eye before putting her hands on my cheeks, "Who did this to you?"

"My dad..." I looked down, not wanting her to see me like this. She placed her hand on my cheeks again and made me look at her. She had a sincere look in her eyes as she spoke, "It's gonna be okay. I'm here."

I looked at her before sighing. She grabbed my hand and sat me on the sofa. She then rummaged around the house, then returned in front of me and put an ice bag over my left eye.

"Ow!" I winced in pain and backed away, making her look at me with pity. Tears formed in my eyes, making them glossy.

"I'm sorry." She whispered. She sat beside me and wrapped her arms around me, giving me a side hug. I put my head on her shoulder and we just stayed like that for awhile.
