Jack Avery's P.O.V.

I walked into school with my leg in a brace, making me use crutches to aid me in getting around. My leg got hurt at our football game. I got to my locker and opened it, grabbing my books. I tried to hold myself up with my crutches, only for my books to fall, "Damn it."

"Jack?" A female voice asked. I looked to my right, only to see Sam.

"Hey." I said as she approached me, "What's up, Sam?" She raised a brow at me, collecting my books. She looked up at me, my books in her hand, "Why do you have crutches?"

"I hurt my knee in my football game last Saturday." She held my books close, "Well, do you want me to assist you? We do have some classes together. I could just ask Jonah or Corbyn if you need them when I'm not around."

"Are you sure? I feel like that would be too much trouble." I said, biting my lip a little. She just smiled at me, "Of course, I'm sure!"

"Okay, I guess." I said, feeling off. I'm not used to needing help. She looked at her watch then back at me, "Well, let's go. Or else we'll be late."

"Right." I chuckled. We started walking, her being close to me. My heart beats faster as I noticed how close we are. My head perked up as I heard whispers. I looked around, seeing where the whispers came from. Every student that saw us passing by, whispering to the nearest person they have. Right. Rumors. I sighed. That's it. I've had enough. I turned to the two girls, "Look, if you have something to say to me, why don't you just say it? Like, I can't hear you whispering? I have ears that works perfectly well. I'm not deaf nor dumb so I know you're talking about me."

I only meant to tell them to piss off but I guess my anger got the best of me. The whole hallway seems to stay silent at my outbursts. The two girls giggled. I recognized these two. They've been trying to get in a lot of guys pants here and there. I remembered last summer when they asked me out and I declined. Britney spoke, "Guess you have a new girl to fuck, huh, Jack?"

"Oh, shush, Brit. She probably doesn't know." Abby rolled her eyes, "Plus, he'll probably leave the poor girl by morning."

"Will you guys leave him alone?" Sam spoke for me. This time, the hallway was quieter. The two girls laughed, "You think you're so special, aren't you?"

"News flash, he's just using you." They giggled before turning their backs and walking away. Sam gritted her teeth, giving me my books, as the bell rang. "Looks like we're gonna be late after all."

"Samantha Johnson, please report to the principal's office."

"Oh, my God. Sam! What did you do?" We were currently having lunch, enjoying and all. Until, of course, the speaker called for our dear friend. I looked at her worridly but she just smirked at us, grabbing her bag, "Eh, I just brought two girls to the nurse's office. But, heads up, I'll probably be gone for a week or two."

And she left, accepting her fate.

"She can be so reckless at times." Corbyn sighed, shaking his head. I followed her, ignoring Corbyn's protest not for me to get up. Once I finally caught up, she turned to me, "Jack?"

"Hey." Before she could speak, I beat her to it, "If you're going down, I am too. It's just as much my fault as it is yours."

"Well, not really." She said, "I mean, you didn't beat up those girls. It was just me."

"Yes, it is. I'm the one who got angry first." I defended. She raised a brow, "But you wouldn't have brought them to the nurse's office."

"Sam. Sshh. I'm going with you whether you like it or not." She sighed, "Uh... I guess...?"
