A Little Bit of Brutal History

Kyra's POV: I curled up in a tight ball and slept, or for however long until my anxiety took hold again.
I dreamt of somewhere far away from here. Somewhere that a queen, trying to do what's best for her kingdom, tortured a young boy that mistakenly fell through a portal that led to the land. After a few days, however; she let him go. But forbade him to make a fire, or anything that had potential for danger.

But we all know how this ended.

The young boy, cold and hungry, made a fire so that he could keep warm and roast himself a pig that he caught out in the wild.

But that was a dire mistake.

The wind blowing through the trees knocked the fire onto the hard, bitter cold ground and caught fire.

The queen caught wind of the boy's blunder, and brought him back to question him. She shook him hard, and asked why he had went against her orders with a creepy smile on her face. Then she plunged her hands into the boys chest, and held his heart in front of his wide eyes.

I awoke suddenly and hear someone screaming. And then I realized it was from me. So much for keeping myself alive. Well, I was going to die anyway. Amid my scream, I had heard something else. I shift my eyes, trying to see if I could see anything.

Nothing.

It was worth trying anyway. Then I hear it again, a faint breath that came from my right.
I turn quick, and meet my assailant. It presses it's wet snout to my cheek, and I jump at least a foot or so.

I jump back and get into a fighting stance, ones that I've seen from movies, even though it wouldn't save my life. I knew it was foolish, but maybe it would give me some time at least.

Icel's POV: She looks so silly, trying to protect herself with...whatever the hell she is doing. I don't blame her though. After all, she doesn't know what I am, she can't see me, and I could kill her very easily.

This cave was meant to enslave the victim's within, which means that they have the least chance of surviving. That's how the queen set it up, even though I can come and go as I please. But, of course, I wasn't human.

Without words, there is no way this girl could understand me. And this wasn't going to get anywhere if I can't communicate. I don't know why I decided to stay, but I was curious. This girl looks in no shape to attack me, and I hadn't seen a human in hardly five hundred years. I rarely use my mortal form because it is too fragile against this world's harsh environment, and this cave isn't dangerous. At the moment, anyway. And she won't be able to hurt me. I've had some training, and this petty human won't be able to do anything.

I felt my skin start to shift, and in a blink of an eye, my scales were replaced by skin.

Kyra's POV: Suddenly I hear an intake of breath, and the creature thing talks, like a human. His rich British accent flows as he whispers, "I mean no harm."

I mean no harm? How the hell was I supposed to believe that? This is a place of deceit and torment, and there is no way to know that this...creature-human thing isn't just in my head, or if it was dangerous.

"How did you get in here?" He asks me cautiously.

"I...um..."I had no words because I don't trust him, and I get pulled into my memories. And most of the time it keeps me hostage until the moment is over.

Realizing I wouldn't give any information because of the memories, he sighs, then says,"Right. This cave traps you in your memories until it passes, that's the way it was designed. I get it, you don't trust me."

"Of course I don't trust you. I can't even see you." Who the hell does he think he is?

"Ah, yes. That's right." I could hear his footsteps as he shuffles closer to me, and I step away on impulse.

"If you want any chance of survival, you are going to have to trust me. You aren't any better walking away than taking a risk."

"The hell I am." I shot out in disgust.

"Look." He pauses. "If you are connected to me, you will be able to see everything."

"How do I know...this isn't some trick?"

"You don't."

There was no way I was going near that...thing. I'd rather die alone than die by the hands of this unmentionable. I start to walk away, and in a blink of a second, I could see everything.
