What Are You?

The silence was deafening. We had been walking for a while now, with unspoken words. The sun had dropped over the horizon, painting the sky with blues, purples, and greens. The temperature didn't decrease one bit, it was a comforting feeling against my skin. My feet and ankles were sore, for I had no shoes. Apparently in this world they didn't believe in shoes.

Rina calls out, "Almost there!"

Icel doesn't change his expression at all, I am led to believe that he doesn't ever get tired. I felt like I packed bricks in my body somewhere. I laugh internally. That reminds me of when I was in school and my backpack was heavy, then my friends joked that I was a slacker because I didn't bury the body and instead kept it in my bag.

Wait. I had a memory! Yay! In my head, I was doing a little happy dance and twirling around on ice like a five year old.

Something must have shown on my face because Icel turned to me and a hint of a smile was showing.

Rina abruptly stops, and says shortly, "Here."

This place was more secluded into the woods, but was just as beautiful as the place we arrived at. It had a pool, just like the other one. The only difference was that it was almost dusk, and it was surrounded by twilight.

"I'm going to wash up. You guys are welcome to join m-..." Rina starts.

Icel had already started to walk in the direction saying, "nope."

I followed him, chuckling slightly to myself.

We came to a clearing and literally stood there, unsure of what to do. I decided my feet needed a rest and leaned my back against a tree. I sigh in relief. I didn't realize how much tension there was in most of my body such as; my back, shoulders, legs, feet. Mostly everywhere. I had no clue how long its been since I had any sort of exercise.

I thought to myself, as often as I do, that I was happy that I had some inkling of the past besides some that I remembered in the death caves. I need to rediscover myself. I dont't even know who I am.

My friend.

Gemi.

Where was she? Probably back in the human realm...why did I even think that she could have been anywhere near here? I don't need to go to those conclusions, I have no evidence that suggests that she could be....anywhere else but there.

She's safe. And probably singing our favorite songs. Oh god, I hope she is okay.

I didn't realize that warm, salty tears started to fall off my cheeks until Icel says, "Are you okay? Are you having any memories?"

"I'm sorry." I angrily swipe the tears away and bury my face in my hands.

I hear his footsteps on the moist dirt, and then his breath, just inches from mine.

"Don't be sorry. Friend, please remove your hands from over your face for me."

I laugh amid the tears and say, "Twenty One Pilots fan? Me too."

He sits beside me, and we sit in silence.

In the the moment of tranquility, I hear crunching leaves. Rina walks towards us, her wet, blond hair shining in the moonlight. Literally shining.

"What are you?"

"I'll give you two hints: I have a tail and I can breathe underwater." I look at her in confusion. Then she finally says, "I'm a mermaid, you uncultured swine."

She struts off, leaving me in the dust.

As I watch her go, I think, "her beauty matches it for sure."

Icel and Rina seem like opposites in every way, except that they are both beauties.

At that moment, I look to Icel. Looking at the tough planes of his chest, his striking jawline. I knew some people would do anything to get a piece of him. Myself included.

"You should change into your other form, Icel, so that Kyra can have some comfort amid all the chaos. She'll be better protected against anything that might come our way."

"You're right."

He shakes his body, and in the blink of an eye, he's a different creature. A...dragon, it seems. A purple one, I might add. His scales were a dark purple, almost black.

Instinctively, I reach up and touch his scales. They were soft, and warm. Contradicting against the look of him, his scales looked razor sharp.

His massive head turned towards me, and his mouth quirked to the side as if he was annoyed.

I let my hands fall, and sit back down against the tree.

I huff, and fall to my side. I need to get some sleep, who knows what tomorrow will bring. Maybe a rabbit bringing some cookies. Or bloodshed.

I hear Icel settle in beside me, huffing as he curles his body much like a dog.

I laid there, dreams threatening to take me over. I wish it would. I wouldn't get any sleep if it didn't.

Half asleep, I scooted a little closer to Icel's furnace of an underbelly. I relished in the warmth, laying half a foot away.

I could hear his huffs of breath as he sleeps, his body rising and falling like an ocean wave. Listening to his breathing, I fell asleep. Until the next day would come.
