The Cosmos Reaper

Let's start off by saying this was the most bizarre thing I have ever encountered in my life. It's gangly limbs moved over the ground, upturning grass in it's wake. Wood chips flew from it's base, flinging out at least five feet in front of it.

It was a tree. And it looked as if it wanted to eat me alive.

It was chasing us. Literally chasing us through the woods.

It was freaky, watching it move. I was mesmerized, rooted to the spot. It moves closer to me, and faintly I hear someone call my name.

I feel someone tug on my arm, nails biting into my flesh. I wouldn't move, couldn't move.

I hear a ruffle of air, and followed by it a roar. The sound was loud, deafening. My ears start to ring, my head pounding.

I stand by as the tree gets closer by the second.

Twenty feet.

Fifteen feet.

Ten feet.

Five feet.

The front of the tree opens up to show a cosmos of colors. The feeling of it reels me in, like a fly caught in a spiderweb.

Then I hear a giant crack, and I come back to my senses slowly.

"Kyra."

Icel's face swarms in front of mine, his large hands gripping either side of my face.

"It's going to regenerate. We. Need. To. Move." He pulls me harder, and feeling comes back into my legs, my feet.

I move my feet, and they progressively get faster.

I'm going to make it out of this alive.

Icel runs along side me, never looking back.

I'm not going to either, I'm not making that mistake again.

My legs felt as if they were fracturing as we get further and further away, I'm going to need to slow down or else I will collapse.

Icel must have noticed because he slowed down, and we continued our pace.

"Once we get far enough away, we'll stop." Icel yells over the wind brushing past my ears as I run.

Thank god. I felt like I was about to have a heart attack.

After we get a little bit further, we eventually stop.

Where was Rina? She couldn't have died, there was no way. Well, there was a way for everything, but...still.

Once I catch my breath, I say to Icel, "Where's Rina?"

"She'll be here. She went underwater to get away from the Cosmos Reaper, she didn't want to get us killed."

"Get us killed?!" I shrieked, "I would have died if it weren't for you!"

"She couldn't have done anything. If anything, she would have died along side you."

I realized how foolish I sounded, and said, "I'm sorry."

He breathes, and says, "I understand where you are coming from, but there was nothing she could do."

It was true, I was being a brat. I didn't want her to die, I'm glad she isn't dead.

Just then, Rina pops up and says, "Talkin' bout' me?"

She tends to pop up in the most opportune moments.

She sits down, one ankle crossing over the other as she says like she is at a slumber party, "So...what did I miss? An almost death, a worse death, a -...."

Icel cuts her off and says, "She was almost eaten, but she seems perfectly healthy now. So, shut your pie hole."

"Hey now." She puckers her lips, then says, "I just wanted to join in on the drama."

"There is nothing to discuss." He sticks his tongue out at her, and she shoots her tongue out afterwards.

I giggle as quietly as I can manage. They are like an old married couple.

"What are you laughing at?" Icel glares at me, then the hint of a smile breaks through. "You won't be laughing after you hit the ground so many times when we train."

He winks, and at my startled expression, he bursts out in uncontrollable laughter.

"Heh. Heh heh heh. Very funny."

"Hey, you were the one to suggest it."

"Suggest training me? Or beating me up? Because I didn't sign up for that."

"You get one, you get the other."

I roll my eyes, with as much sarcasm as possible.

Rina joins in, "How about a one to one with me, huh, brother?"

"Nah, I'm good. Wouldn't want to damage that pristine skin of yours."

"Or are you too afraid?" She says as she files her nails with a branch.

"What? Me? No..."

"Circle up. Let's go. Right here, right now."

He doesn't move an inch.

With a smirk laid perfectly on her face, she says, "That's what I thought."

"Lam-o. I was excited to see this, if I could have got some popcorn, that would have made it even better." I say.

"You shush. You can't do squat." Icel growls.

Rina laughs, and says matter-of-factly, "Don't be grumpy because you can't beat little ole' sis." She frowns, then laughs some more.

He loses it. He launches himself at her, and the show begins.

A tree? Who could've guessed? Wow, I just realized that my chapter title had the answer in it. I'm such a goober. And then to the sibling love. If you have a sibling, then you know how it is, lol. And these two are just a bunch of squabbling knuckleheads. Shit's about to go down.
