I still saw black when my eyes slowly opened and saw white and bright lights. 'I'm dead..' was the first thing going through my mind. I slowly sat up with a sharp pain on my back. I took a deep breath and sighed as I looked around.
I was in a hospital gown as I looked over and saw a window. I got up and looked out and saw a city.
The sound of a door opening was heard as I turned around, seeing a man in a white lab coat walked in.
"Oh, you're up, you shouldn't be it of bed. You're still healing." The man says as he writes on a clip board, "who are you? And where am I?" I say softly, staying by the window, "you're at Grady Memorial Hospital, and I'm Dr. Steven Edwards. We found you past out due to dehydration." He says as he looked up to me from the clip board, "you should lay down, you're still recovering." He repeats, "I'm fine." I say softly shaking my head as I looked back out the window.
"This is Atlanta? Isn't it?" I ask as I looked around. The city was destroyed, debris every where, burn marks on buildings from fire, broken glass in just about every window, a beautiful city gone to shit. "Was, Atlanta." The Dr says looking at me.
I looked back to him and sighed, "when can I leave?" I ask not wanting to stay there another second, "until Dawn is ready to set you on her way, which will take a while," he says. I looked at him and then down.
"Was my back properly treated?" I ask looking to him, "yes. We checked out your back and took care of it, we made sure it wouldn't get an infection and it's still healng." He nods. I nodded as well, "who's Dawn?" I ask, "she's the leader of this place. Word of advice with her.. don't piss her off." He says as he walks out of the room
I looked over and grabbed my bag and saw it was empty and got pissed. I walked out of my room and saw the Dr. "Where's my shit?!" I yelled across the hall. He stopped and looked back to me, "you'd have to talk to Dawn about that," he says looking back to me, "I ain't talking to anyone. It's my shit and I want it back!" I yelled in anger, "I can't do anything about it, you'd have to take it up with Dawn," he repeats, "where the hell is she then?!" I ask, "we'll find you some clothes and I'll take you to talk to her." He says and walks away.
I went back into my room and look around seeing clothes sitting down on a chair. I picked them up seeing they were nurse clothing. I sighed seeing no other clothing as I dressed in the blue clothes.
I left the room as I looked around and saw the Dr. as I walked over to him, "bring me to Dawn." I say looking at him. He nodded as we started walking and made it to a room as we went inside seeing a woman in a navy blue sweat pants saying A.G.P.D., saying Atlanta Georgia Police Department as she worked out on an elliptical.
I looked around as I went inside, "Dawn, that girl Officer Paul found three days ago is up, and she wants to talk to you." Dr. Steven says as she stopped and put a towel over her shoulder and got off and looked to me, "what do you need kid? You should still be in bed resting." She says as she wiped her face off from sweat. "I want my stuff and I want to get the hell out of her," I say crossing my arms feeling a sudden tightness. "kid, you can't go anywhere, you have stitched still healing, you still have a burn healing, you're best bet is to stay here," she says putting her hand on her hip and leaned to the side. I looked at her and was mad and annoyed. I wanted to get the hell out of this hospital and get on my way. "Listen Dawn, I just want to get the hell out. I don't want to stay here, and I can already tell that the longer I stay here and all the food I eat, the more I'll have to pay for being here when all I want to do is get the hell out of here.
