Chapter 3: Meeting Him

EL's POV

Looking at the school gate I felt like I can’t breathe. I want to run. I want to go home. I want to hide under my bed and never come out. Oh god why?! Why did he have to come back? Why Ed?! Why are you back?!

Out of habit, I started looking for him. There he was. I feel like I died a thousand times in this very moment. He looks more handsome than ever. His beautiful blonde hairs are ruffled as always. His eyes are smiling along with the lips. His lips. The very same lips that haunt me every night. Control yourself Beth!! He looks more muscular than he did four months ago.  He looks well built. Was he swimming while he was away? Where was he anyway the entire time?

“Stop drooling over him, Beth. I know he’s sexy but c’mon he’s your ex” Alice said with a laugh.

“I am not drooling!” I defended myself.

We started walking towards the corridor. Okay, Beth prepare yourself. You just had your vantage point by seeing him beforehand so just don’t ruin it. Okay? Pretend like nothing happened. Pretend like you’re okay with seeing him. And forget that you still love him. I felt like crying this very moment. I feel like running into his arms and weeping my heart out.

“You are crazy, El? How can you not be happy? We’re happy together! You love me and I love you”

“But loving is not enough Ed! It’s not! I want your trust, too!”

“What the fuck El, I trust you, okay?!”

“If you trust me then why are you stopping me from hanging out with Damian? He’s my friend, Ed!”

“Because you’re mine! And you’ll do what I say, okay!”

“But Ed…”

And I started crying. He pulled me towards himself and hugged me hard and said: “Don’t cry, just do as I say, babe.”

The memory of our first serious fight and my crying in his arms and relenting to his wish, shook me out of my reverie. No! I won’t succumb to his wishes, ever! Never ever! I started walking towards my locker, smiling at whatever Damian was saying to me. It was then when I could feel a piercing gaze on me. And I know it’s him. Great! So he just saw me. I smiled inwardly. I know I am looking my best today. I have lost quite a few pounds weeping over him. At least, all that moping made me look hot.

What the hell am I thinking? I am not here to make him jealous. I am just trying to tell him that it’s all over, that I have moved forward. Yeah that’s just what I want him to get. Yeah! Okay so let’s get started.

I looked at Damian ready to crack a joke when a very familiar sound froze me.

“Hey El!” he drawled in the oh-so-sexy-Ed-drawl.

Control, Beth! And ignore him, okay. I turned towards Damian ready to crack my joke yet again when he yanked at my arm.

“I am talking to you.” He said.

“Oh sorry! I didn’t realize. Hey. So how are you, how have you been?” I smiled at him sweetly.

“Seriously, El?” He sounded irritated.

“Yes, Edward! And don’t call me that we’re just classmates. Don’t forget we broke up. I broke up with you.” I deliberately chose to hurt him.

It was then when I saw something in his eyes but he concealed it quickly. But I know what that something was. It was the same hurt look he had in his eyes the day I broke up with him. I felt like I was breaking from the inside. No Beth, you have to be strong. He needs to know he just can’t control everyone’s life. Your life. Yes that’s right.

I bid him adieu and walked away with my heart looking back at him while I looked straight ahead.
