I finally got a bus and set off towards camp. I couldn't get directly there by bus, but I needed a little bit of thinking time to myself.
Nothing attacked me. My monster luck was beginning to run low.
I stepped off the bus. I was near Long Island, so I just decided to grab a taxi.
Bad decision.
About eleven miles away from camp, a giant ant crashed onto the top of the taxi. I had to save the mortal. Monsters could kill mortals, they just couldn't kill them with supernatural weapons.
I swiped my hand in front of me. My bow appeared in the taxi, and I grabbed an arrow quick.
The driver flailed his arms, and the car crashed into the ditch.
I used the tip of my bow to smash the window open. I climbed out, drawing blood.
The mortal driver looked absolutely terrified, though I wasn't sure what he was seeing. The Mist always distorted things in the weirdest ways.
The giant ant was foaming at the mouth. It spit at me, so naturally I side-climbed out of the way. The ground where the poison hit bubbles and fizzed. I made a mental note not to get touched by the poison.
In the best and quickest way possible, I nocked an arrow. The ant's mouth started foaming again, but it was too close to shoot. I had to think quickly.
I rolled onto my back to avoid the acid spit, then drove my arrow into its shell, not invoking much damage. I rolled again, managing my way off the taxi.
I got up fast and nocked an arrow. I aimed it straight into the nearest chink in its armor, then let go.
It sunk deeper than my first arrow had, but it didn't do much.
I knew what I had to do. I also knew I had a death wish.
The ant began to come towards me. Its mouth foamed again, and I saw my chance. I nocked an arrow and aimed it right into the mouth of the ant.
The arrow lodged itself into the throat of the poor animal. I tried to dodge, but its poison didn't miss me.
My bow hand sizzled. I felt like puking.
The pain of my hand was so bad, spots in my vision appeared. Tears stained my cheeks. I heard police sirens in the distance, so I didn't waste my time grabbing my bag and paying the driver.
What? I'm a good citizen!
I had to use my good hand to do everything, which was really annoying. I tried to heal it, but the poison was too powerful over my weak powers. I'd just have to wait until I got to camp.
I began walking towards camp. If another monster tried to attack me, I don't think I could have defeated it. If my enemy decided to make a move, he would win.
*About 3 Hours Later*
I saw the strawberry fields outside of camp. I'd never been so happy before.
My legs ached horribly. I kept trudging, my hand dripping blood.
The poison had spread up through my arm. If I didn't get there soon, the poison would soon overtake me.
"Will!" I yelled, about 30 yards from the border.
"Leo! Chiron! Anyone!?" I continued yelling.
A familiar blonde came racing towards me. I entered the border, and his eyes instinctively went to my hand.
"Giant ant poison," I said.
"A myrmeke attacked you?!" He demanded.
"Yea it flipped—"
I stopped mid-sentence. Leo and Chiron came up behind Will. If I could just collapse and cry in Leo's arms.
"Y/n," Chiron said, eyeing my wound. "Get that fixed now. How long has the acid been on you?"
"Three hours, maybe."
"Take her to the infirmary. Now. Leo, stay with me."
"But Chiron—" started Leo.
"I've been alive for millennia, Leo. I've learned from experiences the best decisions."
Leo didn't look like he wanted to stay, but he knew that my condition was unstable. He had to follow Chiron's orders.
Will led me to the infirmary. I could feel my life fading away, like the way I'd felt when Phobos had impaled my stomach.
