Chapter 2: Newbie Half-Blood
“Heelllloooo?” I call into Castles apartment and almost instantly Castle’s mom, Martha, pops her head out from around the corner. For being her age she’s beautiful with her slim face, smile and crazy red hair. “Oh hi Ms. Rodgers.” I smile and she starts to pout.
“Mia dear we’ve talked about this I’m your grandmother now.” I blush slightly.
“Sorry, old habits die hard I guess.” She shrugs grabbing my hand and practically dragging me to the couch.
“What’s wrong Kiddo?” She asks picking up a glance of what looks like gin, only putting it down when she finished the whole thing.
“Nothing, just a lot on my mind is all.” I try to smile but it’s was hard.
“Are you thinking about him?” she asks and I nod. I’m pretty sure she’s telepathic but don’t quote me on it.
“Little bit, but it’s not as hard as it used to be.” She nods but I can tell she can see straight through my lie.
“It’ll just get worse if you keep holding on, as soon as you let go you’ll feel ten times better.”
“I try but I keep thinking what if, you know?” And she rubs my shoulder. “Everyone keeps telling me to get over it, but they don’t really get it.”
“How could they? Can I give you some advice? No wait let me just tell you. Do you think he’s alive?” I nod. “Then don’t let go.” She says and my jaw drops. Out of everything she could say that was the last thing I was expecting. “Surprised?”
“Well yeah.”
“I’m an actor sweetheart and a romantic; I’m on your side.” She whispers the last bit and I laugh knowing she’s a bit tipsy. It’s probably hard for a sober person to change their opinion so quickly. We sit there for a while talking about life, school, you know normal stuff when Castle and Mom walk in. “Well look who it is the Detective and wan-a-be cop.” Castle narrows his eyes but mom just laughs. It’s good seeing her happy. She deserves it. They sit on the love seat across from us and snuggle next to each other.
“Did you see Chiron today?” She asks and I nod. “How’d it go?”
“Fine for most part, same old same old. Just talking about the stupid dream and relaxing techniques. Nothing too big.” They looked worried but I didn’t say any more. Why make them worry any more than they already have been.
Dinner was tense, they wanted to more about what happened today but I just kept repeating what I told them driving mom nuts. As soon as I finished my food I went upstairs and into my room. It didn’t take a genius to know my mother had searched through my stuff trying to figure out what was going on with me.
From there perspective I probably seemed distant and I probably was. If I was close to all of them, my new family included, it would just be making everything so much harder. Hopefully there was a way out of this and when it’s all over I can apologize but for now it’s better to keep my distance no matter how hard it is. If I can’t leave them this is the way it has to be.
When I wake up this morning I have my sword in my hand and I’m in cold sweat but thankfully I can’t remember my dream from last night. I look at my alarm clock, it’s 5:05. I get up and get dressed in my work out clothes. I walk through the dark house and grabbing my keys from the hook and head out door.
It takes me 7 minutes to get to the old gym where Logan used to train me. It was empty but the door was always open. No one ever seemed to come in here but me. When I asked Annabeth about it she said it was probably hidden from humans, which meant I had the whole place to myself. I dump my bag on the floor and walk to the nearest punching bag. I pound away at it for nearly twenty minutes before I switch to sword training. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of this but the more I practice the better I get. It’s hard without having someone experienced to teach you but I’m getting better. When I look at my phone and see it’s already 7: 30. I strip, then jump into the gym showers. Annoyed I don’t really get to enjoy it I grab my clothes and start getting dressed. Pulling on a long sleeved shirt and old blue jean shorts. I walk out the door not bothering to bring the gym bag.
