Chapter 19: The Trials – Bloody
I wake up, sitting straight up in bed, on instinct I look for Castle but he isn't here. He should be here. He woke me up the first time it happened...I'm sure he did. It's just a memory. She's playing with you. I wipe my hands on tank top then pull down the covers stepping barefoot on to the wooden floor. The sudden wetness has me pulling my feet back up. I landed in a blood puddle and it wasn't the only one. There were three of them leading out of my open bedroom door. All of them smeared, like something had been dragged through them.
I can do this. Gathering my courage I take a deep breath and step into the puddle. I walk to my closet, pull out my knives and will them to lengthen then step over the threshold. The Blood is everywhere, staining the walls and floor in a clear trail to the front door. I follow it down the stairs and nearly slip on the last step down landing a huge puddle at the bottom. I wipe it off as calmly as I can but I only seems to get worse, smearing all over my tank top and sweats. I look around the kitchen, but everything is untouched. Except for the blood trail through my living room. "Mom?" I call by voice only echoes off the walls.
Lightning suddenly strikes outside shaking the entire building revealing Galene hovering outside my window. Just like she did two years ago. She smiles evilly, waves, then just as quickly disappears into the next lightning strike. The blood trail disappears under the front door and I take a deep breath. There's no other way to go. I open the door and step into the darkness.
The first thing I saw was the blood. Blood stained the grass and big house's walls. Then the bodies...the bodies were everywhere. Everyone I knew was here. Logan still lay alone at the base of the tree. Cleo died not five yards away from him with a knife sticking out of her chest. Her eyes directly on me. I walked closer to her and fell to the floor. Oh my god, Cleo. First, Logan now Cleo, if I looked I'm sure that I would find everyone I'd ever met. All here at camp
"Look what you've done." Galene says, as if she was talking down to a small child. I turn around just in time to watch her descent to the ground. Her leathery wings out stretched making her look even bigger and more terrifying. Her hands hung relaxed at her sides letting me know just how long those talons were. A sudden pain surges through my soldier and I scream. She laughs and walks closer to me.
"I didn't do this." I growl, holding my shoulder.
"Oh sure you did."
"I was in my room." I say stupidly and she laughs.
"So what you killed all of them and took a nap afterwards. Completely understandable after all you were working hard. It takes allot of effort to commit mass genocide. But so messy you really shouldn't have dragged all the blood back with you." I lift my hand to my face and wince when I put my finger on something sharp. Oh my god!
"Shut up!" I scream and my glow surrounds me.
"That's it, go on get angry. This has taken to long already. I could use a good fight anyway." She takes a step forward and I take a step back holding my knives in front of me in the form of one long blade.
"I didn't do this. None of this is real!"
"No?" She asks bending down wiping the blood of Cleo's face and tasting it with her thumb. "It tastes real, feels real, and the smell." She groans "Is just divine. Don't you agree?" The scary part was that she was right. I liked it...I was horrified but somehow I liked it and the smell was so intoxicating it made my vison fuzzy. I lunge forward swiping at her but she jumps out of the way the nick of time.
"Don't touch her!"
"Aww what's wrong are you still hungry? You never know you might have missed one. Don't worry I'm sure there's still something around here that you can kill." I swing again in rage and she grabs the sword with her bare hand and rips it out of my grasp sending the blade sailing into a mound of dead bodies. "Uh oh." She teases then bares her fangs at me.
