Chapter 9: His Gift and Warning

“God I’ve missed coffee.” I sigh taking a deep gulp closing my eyes. Guess it’s going to be one of the things I’m going to miss. Am I even going to remember the taste? Sighing I set down the cup. No one seemed to notice.

“Yep, it’s the good stuff to.” Cleo takes a long drink then looks back at me. “So what’s going on? What’s the plan?” she asks taking a big bite of her toasted ham and cheese sandwich.

“Find Logan.”

“See that’s your problem.” Connor says.

“My problem?” I ask and he shakes his head.

“That’s more of a goal. We need an actual plan.”

“Well seeing as we’re in Texas and no closer to finding him, I have no idea what we’re going to do.” Cleo sighs and lays her head on the table.

“Well don’t you inspire confidence?” Nico mutters and I roll my eyes

“I’ve got us this far it’s your turn.” I take another long gulp and look at my surroundings. Any one of these Coffey lovers could be a monster waiting to kill us once our backs were turned. God that’s depressing.

“It can’t be that easy.” Dom sighs and I look up.

“What are you talking about?” I ask and he turns my head towards the TV. His picture pops up and there he is with his casual smirk looking at the camera. It was a mug shot and seemed a few years old but it was definitely Logan. The news woman started listing his crimes: Grand Theft Auto, Armed Bank Robbery, and public indecency. Well, Logan never claimed to be a saint but half of this could be Logan’s roommate too. The camera showed a mall being completely evacuated so he must be there. Two pines mall. “We aren’t this lucky.” I laugh wiping my mouth with the napkin.

“It could be a trap.”

“We don’t have a choice.”

“We?” he smiles and I glare at him

“Fine, me, okay. I don’t have a choice. You can stay if you want but I’m going with or with out you.” He grabs my arm and nods.

“Don’t count me out just yet.” He smirks and I roll my eyes.

“Very funny, now let’s go bring him home.” Dom being the gentlemen he is pays the check and we leave the Coffey shop without incident. But we found Logan meaning this day is far from over. First thing that pops into my head is set up. I’ve scoured every form of social media looking for Logan and of course we aren’t this lucky. What are the chances that his stupidly handsome face would pop up on the screen on the exact channel we were watching? If my mother has taught me anything from her time in the NYPD it’s that there is no such thing as coincidence. Everything happens for a reason but I doubt she’s had to deal with the possibility that the victim could be the killer (or trapper). Then again she works in homicide so all her ‘victims’ are dead. At her life is a little more straight forward then mine.

It takes a half hour to get back to the hotel and as soon as we get there we jump into work. Arrow squawks at me in greeting when I walk into the bedroom and I smile. He lands on his fold up pedestal I brought along and spreads his wings. I start sorting my bag only taking what I need so nothing slows me down. I shove my ambrosia and nectar into the bag first putting them in a side pocket so they don’t get crunched. I pull on my leather guard that protects me from Arrows talons. Along with that I bring my cell, pack of granola bars, Extra set of clothes and birdy treats for Arrow. I pull on the backpack then shove all the unwanted crap in the duffle which sadly includes my mac n’ cheese. Cleo comes in a minuet after I finish so I give her privacy.
