Chapter 4: Pick and Choose
“Mia what’s happening?” She asks and I smile like an idiot.
“It’s Logan, he’s alive!”
Not waiting for a response I run down the stairs, jumping the last three and rush for the door. I need to tell Chiron so we can get a quest group together I wouldn’t be able to this alone and I’m not willing to risk Logan’s life by going solo. I will not lose him again. I have one foot out the door before I’m dragged back in again. Ryan and Espo hold me up by the arms dragging me back into the living room. My mom comes rushing down the stairs.
“What’s going on Becket she seems fine.” What?
“Wait what? What the hell are you guys talking about?” Ryan glares at me.
“Hey watch the mouth,” He turns back to mom, “Why’d you call she seems good?”
“She wasn’t, I tried to wake her up and she-she wouldn’t respond. We tried everything and she wouldn’t wake up. Eventually she woke up on her own.” Damn it! I don’t have time for this! I need to get to Logan. He’s about to talk when Lanie Parish, a close friend of my mom’s, walks in. why the hell would my mom call for a medical examiner, Lanie works with corpses not with the living.
“I’m here what’s going on Kate”-, she looks at me confused, “She seems fine what’s going on?” mom lets out a cry of frustration.
“But she wasn’t! I checked for a pulse and she didn’t have one.” The room goes silent and I feel all eyes on me. Damn Hades to hell! Wait he’s already damned….oops. Their eyes are burning holes into my scull when I clear my throat.
“It’s no big deal mom-“Wrong thing to say, she goes ballistic.
“No big deal? NO BIG DEAL! You were dead for thirty six minutes! Thirty six minutes! What the hell was going on?”
“I was talking to someone.” She glares at me.
“Who exactly was so important that you had to slip into a near death damned comma?” There a beat before a voice that belongs to none of us answers.
“That would be me.” Everyone turns to a dark corner of the room and….Tada! There’s Hades. He gives us a brief look over before his eyes bore into mine. “What part of hurry don’t you understand, Mia Barone.”
“It’s not my fault my Lord, my family-“ I start but my mother interrupts.
“Logan.” He seems like he’s in a rush and in no mood to be interrogated.
“Son of a bitch, I. Am. Not. My. Son.” He hisses out.
“What?” They all ask at the same time and I can tell he’s losing it.
“Guys this isn’t the time alright. I need to leave.” They don’t look happy. Especially Castle.
“Why were you talking to Hades?”
“It doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that your daughter needs to leave this building right now and find my son. There isn’t much time and I have no problem with mowing you all down if it means getting her out the door. Now let her leave or you will pay the consequences.” The room seemed to get darker as he spoke and two skeletal warriors appear at his side with swords drawn. Mom, Ryan, and Esposito pull their guns.
“Don’t go with this guy he’s bad news.” Espo says and I shake my head franticly.
“No he’s….well fine maybe he is a little but we’re after the same thing. Logan’s alive and he thinks I can find him. Please I need to go I can’t lose him again.” They all look conflicted but lower their guns. “Please.” I beg and Mom lowers hers and stomps right up to hades.
