Chapter 14: Fearless
The day after graduation Logan and I make the drive up to camp half-blood armed to the teeth just in case Galene or Hades decided to show there ugly faces. We all agreed, well by all I mean Logan and I, agreed that Cleo should stay home for a while. Breaking the news about her being the missing puzzle piece is going to be hard. Explaining that she is the forbidden daughter of Artemis is probably going to start world war three. Surprisingly there are a lot of cars on the road, meaning witnesses. But it doesn’t make me feel any better and I think Logan feels the same way. He constantly checks the mirrors looking for changes and so do I. An hour later we pull up to the official unofficial parking lot of camp half blood. A few other cars are there but I don’t recognize any of them. We sit in silence looking at the trees blocking the last bit of sunlight the day had to offer.
He gives me a nudge and we lumber out of the car and follow the small dirt path leading to the entrance. When we get close enough I can hear the singing and I can’t help but smile. Singing by the camp fire is the only normal thing about this camp. That is if you don’t count the song choice. The first one to notice our presence was Clarisse. She was standing behind the rest of the guys probably because they ran out of seats again. She waves me over. “I’ll be back in minuet.”
“I’ll wrangle everyone up.” with that he disappears into the crowd, literally, becoming one with the darkness. Guess he wasn’t big on attention or crowds. Walking casually to Clarisse I stand next to her. She looks at me then back at the fire.
“How was graduation?”
“Hectic.” I shrug looking at the crowd. “How’s everything here?”
“Fine, where’s your blond friend?”
“At home.” She nods then her eyes meeting mine.
“Is there something you want to tell me?” I take a deep breath and nod. “What happened?”
“A lot and it’s going to be hard to take in. I thought I should tell you and the cabin before the entire camp. Family first right.” As I speak her back straightens and she tenses. She nods leaning over then whispers in Dom’s ear. He smiles at me when she starts speaking but by the end of their conversation his smile had turned into a grim frown. He nods once then everyone in the cabin gets up and starts making their way through the crowd. The music stops and they watch us go. When someone gets up during the camp fire it’s a definite sign something’s wrong. We walk through the dark back to the cabin and everyone meets in the living room. It’s small but manages to hold all of us. Guess that’s the price of having are own little rooms. Everyone looks at me and I take a deep breath.
“We all know Hades is up to something-“
“You know what it is?” Sam interrupts and gets a biff from Dom who nods at me to continue.
“This necklace is supposed to protect me- it does protect me but it only protects me from three people. So we think that for whatever Hades is doing he needs three people.”
“Three’s an important number, makes sense.” Clarisse nods.
“Well we know who the third person is, and no matter what happens in the meeting tonight… If they want to hurt her then we have to protect her. I’ll tell you if you agree.” The room goes silent and everyone looks at Clarisse. She looks at me curiously and by the look in her eyes I know she knows.
“We’re with you.”
“Good…Cleo…it’s my friend Cleo and we need to protect her.”
“What makes her special?” Clarisse asks and I hesitate. “We’re with you but I want full discloser, do you understand?” I take a deep breath and nod.
