(Melissa POV)
People knew about Melissa and her family. All the kingdom of Sonerezh knew was her and Blue were sisters, though people were sceptical due to their difference in ethnicity, and they were friends with the heir to the throne. No one knew where they came from which was for the best. If they knew they would be killed on sight.
The kingdom of Sonerezh was close to the kingdom of the sky. The kingdom wasn't located in the sky which explains why it's not the kingdom in the sky. It was at the located in the middle of Hell.
A kingdom made of stone. That was the big appeal. This explains the low tourist rate. The only people to ever go there were all members of her family. That being said they were one of a thousand 'siblings'. The best way to describe my family is one big, happy, demonic family. Our 'mother' adopted us. Who our true parents are is a mystery to all of us. Our mother only had one child, Blue. They were automatically heir to our mother's throne. Our mother ruled her own little kingdom of Hell. It has been in the family for ten generations.
Blue was a disappoint according to our mother. In our family, you had to be a certain way. Imagine a thousand female children from different backgrounds brought up the same way. One is bound to differ from the others.
If it was any other child it would be okay but it had to be the only one with her blood.
You must be thinking what could be so bad that her mother was disappointed in her own child. Well, nothing... at least for you and me but to her it was the biggest thing you could be, not a girl.
It is written in our history books that dragon witches could not be male. Mother thought it was a mistake. She just assumed it was going to just be a human boy. She was okay with looking after a human child. It was a chance after all. She did mate with a human.
Everything was fine until the child was two. At two dragon witches, forms change slightly. Their eyes change colour, some get scales for hair, random things. One day Blue's eyes changed colour from muddy brown to you guessed it Bright blue. Just like their mothers.
No one knew what to do and when people don't understand something they mistreat it.
Everyone pretended they were a 'girl' but Blue could never do that. Conversations between Blue and the elders were a common occurrence.
"Only girls can live in this house." One said.
"Only girls can be like us, therefore, you are one," Another said.
These were things my mother would say to try and convince Blue she was 'one of us'. After Mother's failed attempts she resorted to physical abuse. All the children would watch as this was done. I was the only one who cared for Blue. I would help them in secret. I couldn't get caught helping them or else the same would happen to me.
They were trained to be afraid of everyone. When we first left the confines of our place, the fear remained. I prayed it would go away but it never did.
I saw hope when they meet Roman. The charming, charismatic individual found interested in my sibling. Blue made me introduce them as my sister in fear that he won't like them. From the moment they met him, they were in love.
They were a cute couple.
Word got out to our mother that we had been sneaking off and we weren't planning to come back.
I had been preparing for the fight to end all fights. I was going to stop anyone who would step in my sibling's way.
On April 1st, 2001, I marched back to my home. The first time I had been in those parts in weeks. I had cancelled my plans for the night. My amour was layered on top of my regular battle atter. This wasn't a battle. This was war. I rose my sword and shield before kicking open the front door.
Blood stained the walls. Blood stained the floors. I felt myself slipping away with every swing. I was turning into them. All my dead sibling all trying to protect that bitch. I wasn't myself anymore. Any second I would become the being I tried to hide from the world. Maybe it was time to give in to the fight. Maybe it was time to show my true colours. And with that, I blacked out.
When I awoke, night had fallen. I found myself perched on a tree branch. My legs had strange scratches on them. I climbed to the canopy to get a better look at my surroundings. The castle in the distance was in flames. Who knew a stone castle could catch on fire? I remembered the smell of gasoline. I knew the structure holding the building up was made of wood. Smart, I thought.
I headed towards the fire. I wanted to see the extent of the damage. The sent of fat burning could be smelt from 100 metres from the site. The smoke almost masked the smell as cover the sight of the moon. Even without the smoke, the moon wouldn't be seen.
I grabbed a scorching hot piece of timber from the fire. I almost dropped the scorching timber.
Blue didn't know my plans. They would have killed me if they knew what I was doing. I told her I would meet her at the gates of Hell. So that's where I went
They were nowhere to be seen. They knew I was going to be late. Maybe they were with Princey? I hoped so. They weren't. The castle was bare. Strange. No guards, no parental figures, no maids...nothing. I grew more concerned. Where were they?
The hill popped into my mind. Maybe they fell to sleep under the stars. That would be adorable. I could only hope that's what happened.
Once again I was wrong.
My torch was going out so I had to relight a different piece of timber. As I was doing this I saw a flash of light in the sky. Reddish in colour. I could only guess what that was. I drop my old touch and speed towards the gates of Hell. I wouldn't be seen in there. No from the sky at least. I called out my sisters name. After five minutes I stumbled upon Roman.
He caught me up on everything that happened. How could I let myself do this to her? This is all my fault.
A/N| They/them is used for Blue though they are male biologically but obviously that doesn't matter. Blue is will be addressed as female by all those outside of their sister, Melissa. I may have accidentally stuffed up in the past with pronouns and I will probably do that in the future. Please forgive me if I do. I changed a lot of this chapter before posting. Bye.
