Charlotte's POV
"Bye, mom." I said to her as I stepped out of her car on a cold Monday morning.

"Bye, sweetheart. Remember you have a doctor's appointment!" She called to me. I rolled my eyes and stalked towards the front door. Thanksgiving was approaching, which means almost a month has passed. Mark has been sick for the last week. I went to go visit him a few times. Even when he feels terrible he is still cheery.

Jasper and Henry still don't know that I am a glitch. Ray keeps urging me to tell them, and I keep telling him that I am. Bianca came back from her Grandmother's. Which means Henry is back to ignoring me.

I walked into the school to see Jasper waiting anxiously by my locker.

"Hey Jasper." I greeted him.

"Charlotte!" He yelled. "My birthday is next week!"

I gave him a blank look. "Okay?"

"I find my soulmate! What if she doesn't like me? What if I don't have one?"

"First, use your inside voice. Second, I'm positive that your soulmate will love you just as much as you will lover her. Stop worrying." I said.

"Thanks Charlotte. I knew I could come to you."

"No problem. Now move. I need to grab my books."

♢♢♢

I hated this place with a passion. The dreary yellow walls, the monotone voices that always greeted you as soon as you walk in. It all sucked.

The only thing that made this place enjoyable was the free lollipops you get when your done. I always make sure to give Mark one. Speaking of Mark, I made a mental note to go see him after I left this place.

"Miss Bolton." The nurse called to me.

I rose from my chair and stalked to the door leading to her office, thanking the nurse on the way there. I sat on the steel table and kicked my legs while I waited for her. When she finally walked in, she greeted me with a warm smile.

"Hello Charlotte. How are you today?" She said.

"I'm living." I shrugged. Her smile waned a bit, but was still there.

"That's good. I have a few things to talk with you about today. So let's get started, hm?"

Like usual, I walked to to big machine and stood on the platform. She flipped on the huge light and started to run test. Ten minutes passed and we were done. She left and I was once again left alone with my thoughts. When was I going to tell Jasper? And Henry? I didn't want to, but I knew I had to.

"Well Charlotte," the doctor said, walking back into the room. "your test results still haven't changed."

Of course.

"However, I do have some very good news. Doctors have made a break through in your...situation."

That made me perk up.

"They have discover that the hormone that causes your soul to rot can be removed." (I have no idea if that even made sense)

"So you're saying that I may live?" I mumbled.

"Yes you may. If you go through with the procedure. But of course, big discoveries like this don't go without side effects." She said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Well," She began. "getting rid of the hormone may also severe the nerves that makes you be able to feel emotion."

"So what your saying is...?"

She sighed. "If you go through with the procedure, you might not be able to feel any emotions for the rest of your life."

♢♢♢

I rung Mark's doorbell, anxiously waiting. Before I left, the doctor gave me a pamphlet on the procedure. She instructed me to look it over with my mom later. First, I had to look it over with Mark.

"Hey Charlotte. Are you here to see Mark." Mark's mom said when she opened the door.

"Um yes I am. Is he awake?" I asked.

"He should be. You can head upstairs."

I ran past her and up the stairs, shouting a quick thank you. I knocked on Mark's door and walked in when he said come in. He was sitting on his floor playing video games.

"I thought you were sick." I said.

"I am." He replied without looking away from his TV screen.

"I have something very important to show you." I began "My doctor gave it to me." Mark brought his eyes to me. He rose from his seat on the floor and stalked over to me.

"What is it?" He questioned.

"It's a pamphlet on a procedure that people like is can get!" I exclaimed.

He gave me a quizzical look. "What do you mean?"

"Remember that thing you told me in the hallway at school? Well my doctor went into more detail about it."

"What did she say?"

"Something about taking out a hormone. She also said something that was quite alarming." I muttered.

"What?"

"Well, taking out the hormone may also cause the nerves in the brain that cause you to feel emotions." I explained.

"Okay? What does that mean?"

"It means that if we get the procedure, we might not be able to feel any emotions."
