Charlotte's POV

I tried calling Mark for what seemed to be the hundredth time that day. I sighed when I got his voicemail again.

"Hey it's me. Charlotte. Your best friend. I've been calling you all day. Text me soon." I said before hanging up.

"No one leaves voicemails anymore, Charlotte." Ray said coming to stand by me at the supercomputer.

"I do." I mumbled.

"Exactly."

I rolled my eyes and rose from my chair.

"Where are you going?" Ray inquired.

"Upstairs to Junk N' Stuff." I answered.

I stepped into the elevator, waving to Ray before the doors could close. I sent a text to Mark as it started it's trip to the main floor.

A ding signaled I reached the first floor. I stepped out and walked to the front, surprised to see Henry there, as well as Mark.

"Didn't you get my 400 text messages." I inquired.

Mark took his eyes off of Henry to look at me.

"What time do you get off?" He asked me, completely ignoring my question.

"Whenever they decide they don't need me anymore." I grumbled.

"Cool. I'm taking you somewhere." He said grabbing my hand.

"Woah. Ray didn't say she could go." Henry retaliated, grabbing my sleeve.

"I'm sure it'll be fine." Mark growled, tugging me toward him.

"Ray is our boss. He releases us to leave." Henry pulled back towards him.

"Guys! I'm not an object. Mark, I'll go ask Ray if I can leave." I said, pulling my hand out of his.

Just then I got a text.

Ray: You can go. Have fun!

"Ray texted me and said I could go. I'm taking my break, Henry." I said, showing them the phone.

"Awesome! We'll be back." Mark exclaimed, tugging me out the door.

"Are you going to push me off a cliff and end my suffering." I joked, peering at Mark out of the corner of my eye.

"I come up here to think. You know, when there is a lot on my mind." Mark chuckled.

"Sure."

He pulled to the fence and stopped, turning off the car. It was quiet for a few moments before he broke the silence.

"Aren't you scared?" He asked.

I immediately knew what he was talking about.

"Sometimes I am." I answered. "Just think that at any moment my soul can rot away and I'll just turn to a faded memory...it's bittersweet."

"What's the sweet part of it?"

"I won't have to suffer anymore."

I saw Mark starting at me out of the corner of my eye.

"Well that's one way of looking at it." He mumbled.

I sighed and drew my knees up to my chest.

"At the end of the day, no one knows  what I am going through except me. I hear from everyone, "Get the procedure! You won't die!" It's annoying. I know they want what's best for me but they have no idea what I'm giving up." I ranted.

Mark nodded and laid his head against the headrest.

"You're right. They don't know. I should know what's best for me. Which is why I'm going through with the procedure." Mark confessed.

How do you think Charlotte's going to react to that? Find out next week hehe👀

Okay update on the situation: I text him telling him we needed to talk. We met and I laid it all out in the table. Either he stops being a dick or we break up. He told me he only wanted to be with me and we left it at that. Fast forward to last night and I called him and he didn't answer. I left it alone. I check snapchat and he is posting snaps of him with his ex. I call him again and declined it. It rung TWICE and went to voicemail. I called him again, it went to voicemail. I texted him asking him where he was and he left me on read. That's crazy huh? I'm still drinking the same dumb bitch juice from 2018.
