Charlotte's POV

The silence was unbearable.

It has been approximately ten minutes and twenty five seconds since Jasper had gone upstairs. Henry and I had not said a word yet. Neither one of us knew where to start.

However, I was aware of every little movement Henry made; when he ran his hands through his hair, if his breathing changed, I just could not relax. Finally, I couldn't take the deafening silence anymore.

"Henry." I said, my voice scaring him. He looked up and stared directly into my eyes, startling me. I hadn't expected him to be so...bold. He had been staring at his lap for 12 minutes and 14 seconds, where did this sense of confidence come from.

"Charlotte." He replied.

I rolled my eyes. "Is this what we're doing?"

"What do you mean?"

"What did you need to talk to me about?"

"You know what we need to talk about. Why the heck won't get the flipping operation? It'll save your life!" Henry exclaimed.

"Because I don't want to live a life where I can't feel anything! How many times do I have to explain it to you guys? If I get the operation, my emotions would go with it."

Henry sighed. "Look Char, I know you're scared-"

"Why would I be scared? I'm going to have to kick the bucket someday, why not now?"

Henry reached put to grab my arm but decided against it. I pushed myself off of the couch and walked towards the TV wall.

"Char, listen. You don't have to keep up this big tough girl act. You're scared. I've known you for how long? I can see right through you." Henry said.

I refused to look at him. I was afraid he would see the tears welling in my eyes.

"Charlotte, I know I probably don't tell you this enough, or I probably never told you this at all, but I love you."

"Are you even listening?" Jasper shouted pulling me from my thoughts.

"Of course I am." I lied. It was lunch period and Henry was off somewhere with Bianca and as for Mark, he's somewhere. He left during Ms. Shapen's lesson. He told me he would call me later before running out the classroom. Wherever he was, I hope he's ok.

"No you're not. I can tell." Jasper grumbled.

I sighed. "I'm sorry it's just a lot on my mind right now."

"Is this about Henry?" My head snapped towards him.

"Why would it be about about Henry?"

"Both of you have been acting weird. It's throwing me off."

"Well-" The sound of her phone ringing cut her off. She saw that it was Mark calling and sighed with relief.

"Sorry, I really have to take this call. Talk to you later, Jasper!" I said, already halfway out of the cafeteria. I sat down on the floor by my locker and answered his call.

"Mark! Where the heck are you?"

"I'm at my house. I was calling to see of you would want to come over and study later? You know we have finals coming up." He scolded.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah I'll come over. I have nothing better to do. But there better be snacks! You owe me after ditching me in school today. Why were you so in a rush today?"

"I...I had a doctors appointment. It's not important. See you tonight!" Mark exclaimed before hanging up. I stared at the phone for a minute before shaking my head. That boy is definitely hiding something.

Henry's POV

Something bad is going to happen. I don't know what. I don't know when. All I know is that something will happen. I've had the feeling since I woke up this morning.

"Where is Charlotte?" Ray asked, walking into the Mancave.

"I don't know. I'm not her keeper." I replied.

"Watch that tone, kid." Ray scolded before walking towards the elevator. "I'll be back. Hold things down."

I sighed and rose from my seat, walking over to the monitors. I plopped down into the chair and sighed. It was quiet without Charlotte here. Too quiet. I pulled out my phone and tried calling her. Straight to voicemail. Sigh. I tried calling Jasper and I was once again sent to voicemail. I guess people just don't have their phones on nowadays.

I tried calling Mark. Why? Him and Char are always together now. I don't know why. I'm supposed to be her best friend. Not him. He been here less than 6 months and he has already stolen Char.

"What, Hart?" He grunted, answering on the fourth ring.

"Where is Charlotte?" I asked, getting straight to the point.

"What makes you think she's with me?"

"Because you guys are always together. You're practically joined at the hip."

"Funny, Hart. She's not with me though. I'm at the doctor's office. Try her cell."

"I did. She's not answering."

Mark paused. "That's strange. She always answers her phone."

"Exactly, so that's why I'm worried." I sighed.

"I'll stop by her house when I leave here. She's probably just sleeping."

"She could be dead by then. I'll stop by her house now." I said, hanging up before he could say anything else.

Charlotte's POV

I lied in my bed staring at the ceiling. I took a sick day at work and turned my phone off. I just did not want to be bothered today.

I was startled by a loud banging on my door. I sighed and rose from my bed. I trudged downstairs and yanked open the door.

"Wha-" I was surprised to see Henry standing there.

"Henry? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be working." I questioned him.

"Why weren't you answering your phone?" Henry demanded.

"I turned my phone off. Why are you-"

"I thought something bad happened to you. You at least could have called that boy your always around!"

"Mark and I talked before we left school. He had a doctor's appointment. Why are you so on edge?"

"I just..." Henry sighed and walked inside.

I didn't even invite him in.
