●●●Henry's POV
I anxiously sat in Ray's old, junk-filled car as he drove to Swellview hospital. I hate hospitals. If I could I would avoid them at all cost, but I couldn't let Charlotte be in this terrible time without her best friend by her side.
As soon as the car was parked, I hurriedly jumped out of the car and ran to the main entrance, ignoring Ray's call of my name. I ran inside and immediately spotted Mark and Charlotte's mom.
"How is she? Is she okay? What did the doctor say?" I fired off questions left and right.
"Calm down. She's in stable condition. Come on I'll take you guys to her room." Charlotte's mom said.
Mark, Ray, and I followed behind her to the elevators. Once inside, she pressed the button to the 5th floor. One on the floor she took us to a room not too far from the elevators. Room 507.
"Unfortunately, only two people can be in the room at once in fear of overwhelming her. Henry, Mark, I'll let you two go in first. I wait out here with Ray."
I nodded and walked into the room, Mark not far behind me. As soon as I walked into the threshold, I saw Charlotte hooked up to so many wires and machines. It broke my heart into millions of tiny pieces. I walked up to beside her bed and looked closer at her face. She looked so lifeless. I was so used to seeing her so full of happiness that this was a heartbreaking change.
"Do...you need a moment, Hart?" Mark asked, unsure of what to do.
I shook my head and sat down in the chair that perched next to her bed. Her unruly curls sat perched atop her head like a crown.
"I was too late." I murmured.
"This isn't your fault, Hart." Mark said from near the door.
Those words did nothing to reassure me. I should have walked Charlotte home, I should have told her to call me so I could make sure she was safe, I should have-
"Henry!"
The call of my name brought him out of his reverie. I looked up to see Mark standing on the other side of Charlotte.
"I can see the gears turning in your head."
I sighed and placed my head in my hands.
It was quiet for a moment, aside from my heart hammering in my chest, until a soft knock disturbed it. The door creaked open and the doctor came in with a soft smile.
"Hello! I'm Dr. Michaels. I'm just here to check in Charlotte." He stated. Mark nodded while I said nothing.
"If I could just get by you..." He said looking at me.
I hesitantly stood from my chair to stand near the air vent near the window. The moon stood high above the clouds, bright and luminous. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.
