Charlotte's POV

"Mom! I'm fine." I sighed. She glanced at me and shook her head.

"How can you get discharged so soon? You were out for five days!" She exclaimed.

I fell back against my pillows and closed my eyes. The doctor said I was fine. My mom was just overreacting. I felt fine. I looked fine. What was the problem?

"No offense Ms. Bolton, but I think you stressing Charlotte out." Mark said from beside me.

I felt a cool hand touch my forehead before moving down to touch my hand.

"You okay?" He asked softly.

I opened my eyes and nodded, giving him a small smile.

"Who can take care of you? I have to work all day!" My mom continued.

"I can stop by after school, Ms. Bolton. It's really no trouble." Mark replied.

"Thank you, Mark. You're such a nice young man." My mom beamed.

Mark smiled and looked down. I sighed and lifted my head from my pillows and reached for my cup of water. I lifted the cup to my lips and took down a big gulp.

"Charlotte! You're going to throw up if you keep doing that." My mom screeched.

"You know what. I'm going to take a walk down to the cafeteria. Mark, you coming?" I said, placing my cup back on the table.

"Yeah. We'll be back soon, Ms. Bolton." Mark answered, rising from his seat.

"Be careful!"

"We will." Mark and I said in unison.

A comfortable silence fell between us during the short walk to the cafeteria.

"I'm going to get some Jello. You want anything?" Mark asked, already walking to the line.

"Peanut butter and jelly sandwich." I replied.

He nodded before going to stand in the line. I found a small table near the window that overlooked the helicopter pad. Not the best view, but it was a hospital. Maybe if we are lucky we can see it land.

It wasn't long before Mark came back with my sandwich and his jello.

"You really love that stuff, huh?" I asked him, grimacing as he slurped some into his mouth.

"What is there not to love? It's soft so you don't have to chew it, it comes in fun colors, and you can make people uncomfortable with how you eat it!" Mark replied, chuckling.

I shook my head before taking a bite out of my sandwich.

"I cannot wait to go home and sleep in my own bed. I'd never thought I say it, but seeing white walls every day is starting to make me go crazy." I sighed.
