One particular morning, in the middle of August, the sun beamed with so much intensity that it gave away a harsh stinging sensation on the skin of anyone stood outside for more than a few seconds. It was one of many hot days that people would look up to the sky and be met with a pure white color, instead of the normal blue hue that was always expected. Not even a cloud in the sky could be seen. None to give the overworked sun a small break. Fortunately the heat didn't bother anyone too much in the small town, for this was normal for them, especially in summertime.
So just as any other day, Robert was awakened by his phone alarm, unaware and unbothered by the heat outside. His senses fired up as the ringing of those familiar annoying bells shouted at him to get up and start his day.
He struggled for a moment to get out of bed, since it had been a while since he had to wake up so early. He sat up and stretched his stiff muscles and then relaxed, almost too much by the looks of it, since he almost fell asleep again.
Nevertheless, when he was finally up on his feet, he started thinking about what waited for him later in the day. It was the first day of junior year, in a new school. The high school wasn't as far as his old one, but it was still a rival school to the latter. So yeah, he wasn't as thrilled.
It wasnt very common for students to transfer like that so close to their graduation. But, as luck would have it, Robert had no say in the matter. Fortunately, his best friend, Alex, had also transfered. He wasn't exactly sure as to why, but he wasn't about to complain either. Alex wasn't one to give straight answers anyways. He was a master of avoidance and dancing around subjects. When Rob had asked him why he was also transferring, Alex appeared to be almost offended and retaliated by asking if he'd rather he wouldn't, almost accusingly. Robert, knowing that he had hit a nerve, had let it go just as quickly.
So no, he was not going to complain about that. As to other things...
Robert was immensely tired, he had made the mistake of sleeping late again. He didn't regret it though. Less sleep time meant less weird dreams. Robert had a few of those. Not nightmares but definitely not pleasant to experience either. He never knew what was going on in them and felt extremely confused and disoriented whenever he woke up from one.
He could definitely survive the day with whatever sleep he got anyways.
'Maybe a few more minutes though.' He thought. 'I can probably still be ready in time...' He looked down at his very comfortable looking bed.
"Robert, the alarm! Get up!" He slightly perked up at his mother's shout in response to the still ringing alarm. His ears must've tuned it out completely.
"I'm up." He didn't bother shouting back, resorting to just speaking to himself. With slow movement, he turned off the alarm, making sure it was completely off and not on snooze. He stretched again before getting up.
Robert quickly showered, brushed his teeth, and got dressed. He had almost slipped on the tile flooring in his hurry, but he recovered before he actually managed to hit the floor.
Robert almost laughed at himself when he caught sight of himself in the mirror. A hoodie in this heat... the things he did for fashion. First impressions were important to him, so he just nodded in amusement and continued on his way.
His mother greeted him as soon as she saw him coming down the large wooden stairs. Her shoulders relaxed a bit as she urged him to eat his breakfast. She tended to stress out whenever things didn't go exactly as she calculated. So, he seemed to have made it down just in time then. Robert was not really late for school or anything, he was just late to being early, something his mother persisted they did.
