It had been the most boring day for Alex so far. Not only had he had to endure welcome lectures in every single class he had taken so far- and a free period were he couldn't even enjoy because Robert didn't share it with him- but now he was being forced to hang out with people at lunch too, which would've been completely fine if those people were anyone but the one and only Sabrina.

Listen, Alex had nothing against her. She was beautiful, optimistic, and incredibly smart at every subject. She rarely spoke ill of anyone and she had the right balance in her charisma that made her someone people liked listening to. Alex knew better though. She had once admitted to him that she was aware of this fact and sometimes used it for her advantage. No wrong could come from her so everyone did whatever she suggested, no questions asked. Alex had been impressed by it back then, maybe a bit intimidated. Now he kinda dreaded it.

Other than Robert, the new girls they had met that morning seemed to be loving her presence. She was lighting up the room with her bright smile and elrctric blue eyes as she listened and giggled to what anyone wanted to share.

Alex could only stare, as his heart clenched painfully. He didn't know why. As far as he knew he was completely over her, had barely even thought of her the few months after she had transfered. They hadn't ended their relationship badly either but he knew it had still been a rocky one at best.

He'd been so shit to her. Maybe he should apologize one day.

Robert nudged him from his side and Alex looked away from the blonde and pretended he wasn't looking at her.

"You doing okay?" His friend asked from his side. Alex had managed to delay the group tour by a bit by insisting he was too hungry to function. Thankfully, Robert had somehow believed him, or maybe it was just pity, but they now both ate in the most crowded area of the cafeteria. Alex hoped he would not be noticed as quickly by the girls, maybe they would forget them and carry on- delusional thinking since they walked around not too far away, obviously expecting them to join.

Alex thought back to Robert's question and repressed a sigh. He had no idea how he was doing.

"Food's mid."

That got a chuckle out of Robert. Thankfully he got the message and did not ask anything else. He caught himself looking back at Sabrina again, regretting it instantly. She had also been looking at him and their gazes met instantly. For her, that was her cue to target him and she looked very eager to talk.

"Alex!" She had waved with a smile as she basically hopped to his side and plopped down on the chair next to him. She quickly extended her arms for a hug and wrapped them around his shoulders in a tight sidehug. Alex, not wanting to act like an ass, had no choice but to return the hug as best as he could. His position let him just grab ahold of her arm in front of his chest and he patted it a bit awkwardly. He couldn't hide his discomfort though, no matter how hard he tried.

He cleared his throat, a bit embarrassed. Even now, he wasn't treating her well, couldn't get himself to at least pretend he wasn't dreading every second she touched him. He felt so embarrassed about it, and on top, it angered him. His mind drifted to similar encounters. Back when she would apologize and try her best to comfort him after their fights. Maybe she had hurt his feelings or viceversa. He thought of all the things he would say or do back then, the way he would just get even more angry or upset and not understand why. The deeper his mind drifted the more memories were brought up. Of himself, their stupid fights, and the raw terror of the thought of losing her. She always hugged him in the end, just like she was doing right now, to show him everything was okay or that it would be. She wasn't perfect, not even close to it, but she had been the best out of both of them.
