Chapter 24

*three months later*

Today is our last day in Hawaii.

A lot has happened in Hawaii.

Me and Josh got engaged then decided not to have the wedding until we finish Mockingjay Part 1. Most of the public still doesn’t know about the engagement and I’d like to keep it that way for a little bit longer.

Everyone was getting together for the whole day and we would spend the whole day on the beach.

I got up in the morning and had a really hard time finding something to wear.

I had already gotten up a little late (shocker) so when Sam and Jena arrived at my door, I was still in pajamas. I ran down and opened the door for them.

“Oh wow, she’s still in pajamas. You owe my twenty bucks.” Sam laughs and sits down on my couch.

Jena pulled me into my room and immediately started rummaging through my wardrobe.

“You’re not going to find anything,” I commented while brushing my hair.

“Dumbass, wear this!” She chimes, holding up a wavy, floral dress.

Me and her had gone shopping together a while ago and bought a bunch of dresses.

“We are going to be on the beach all day. So put this on, curl your hair, put makeup on, and you’ll look perfect.” She waves at me before shutting the door, but not before yelling, “I’m sure Josh will love it!”

I roll my eyes before doing as she told me to. I put on light makeup and style my hair with loose curls. I put on flip flops and quickly make my way down the stairs. Half way down I get a call from my dad.

“Hello?”

“Hello Jennifer, how are you?”

“Dad, you’re acting really serious. Is everything okay?”

I hear some muffled shouts and shuffling before the other line is grabbed and my mother starts yelling. “Jennifer! How could you not tell me you were engaged?” As she’s yelling, I enter my living room where Sam, Liam, Jena, and Josh all sit on the couch. “This is the biggest moment of your life and you didn’t tell anyone.”

“Everyone here knows.” I laugh to myself and sit next to Josh and Jena.

“Well I’m not there! I’m here and the only way we found out was because the paparazzi managed to get a picture of your ring!”

“Mom, I’m engaged.” I say very vaguely.

“Jennifer!”

“God mom, I’m sorry. The only reason anyone else found out was because I suck at keeping secrets and Jena is really nosey.”

“Hey!” she slaps my arm and I laugh at her.

“Bye mom!” She starts yelling at me not to hang up, but I do.

“Is your mom mad you didn’t tell her?” Josh wonders, holding my hand.

“Furious.”

“You should have told her. She is your mother. It is your wedding.” Josh laughs and smiles at me.

“So what do we have planned?”

“I don’t know,” Sam speaks up, “probably beer, movies, lots of wedding conversations.”

“We literately have nothing planned for the wedding.” Josh and I laugh together. My ears tune into the TV, a familiar voice.

I look up to see Aaron in a commercial for Graceland season 2. He looks healthy, handsome, and young again. He’s 30 now. I wish I was grown up enough to get on the phone and call him and apologize. But I decide not to, not to disturb our night.

“Are you okay Jen? You just blanked out for a while.”

“I’m fine, sorry. I just need to go make a phonecall.” I give them all a reassuring smile and rush outside. I dial his number and sit down on the sand, staring at the sunset.

“Hey Jen,”

“Hi Aaron. I just saw a commercial for Graceland. Good for you, season 2.”

“I’m excited, it’s been fun. So, what’s the reason for the call, need to tell me anything?” I could almost picture him smirking on the other end of the line. He definitely knew I would apologize.

“Shut up, you knew this was coming. Let the moment be special!” I laugh and Aaron laughs too. “I’m sorry.” There’re is a moment of silence before we both break into laughter.

“That was the best apology ever Jen. ‘I’m sorry.’ Wow. I knew you were bad, but not this bad.”

“You’re so mean.” I gasp dramatically and start laughing. “So how are things at home?” The conversation suddenly turned serious.

“Everyone is kind of depressed over here. Everyone else keeps coming back to say sorry but then mom breaks down crying and curls in a little ball.”

“I’ve done my fair share of crying. Sometimes I get nightmares about it all the times.”

“And if your sentence doesn’t finish with ‘Josh was always by my side to comfort me’ I’m getting on a plane and beating him.”

“God Aaron that was going to be the end of my sentence. Just bc Josh is a bit obnoxious it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love me.”

“He better love you or else I’ll kill him.”

“Oh my god, what’s with you and the threats?”

“Shut up. Oh god, I have to go. Mom is crying again.”

“Ok, tell everyone I love them, bye.”

“Bye.”
