Anna's POV
I saw Sara, looking much too pale, much too unhealthy on the hospital bed. Half her head was shaved.
I could see a large incision sewn together with many stitches right where the hair was buzzed off.
She wasn't hooked up to any machines at all. I immediately knew what was wrong.
I couldn't believe this. How could she be dead?
One of my best friends. Gone. I didn't even know what happened to her.
I let out a broken sob and stumbled forward. I grabbed her hand, hoping it was still, I don't know really. I guess I just wanted her to yell at me for being weird or to squeeze my hand right on back.
Aria came up behind me sobbing. I stood up and hugged her. Izzy was silent, stunned. Not even crying yet. It was as if her mind couldn't register it.
Bridgett cried loudly and ran over to join our hug. Izzy soon made her way over too.
I covered my mouth with my hand and sobbed.
I hadn't realized Mrs. Trithe had left the room until I looked up.
I could tell Sara had been here at least a day, maybe two. But she couldn't have been dead that long.
Harold, her giant green duck, and flowers littered the room.
None of us had thought this could happen. Yet here it was. Right here. In front of us.
"Sara.." Izzy's voice brokenly called out.
She was gone. Sara was gone.
