Chapter ten - Shut up!
Fiday afternoon.
D, Cole took me to the doctors this morning, because apparently, after I was talking to Jay who convinced me to go to bed. Well I didn't make it. Cole said he heard a thump that woke him up, he came out of his room and in his words "you were on the floor, there was lots of blood" apparently my nose had started bleeding again. He carried me to him bed, and cleaned me up. I woke up curled around Morgan, her back to my chest, and Cole was on the floor. I had messages from Jay, the last being had he done something wrong. So I said no.
Cole took me to the doctors, who sent to me the hospital. I got there and they sent me to haematology now that was a weird place. It was all white, white, white and a little silver. Men I'm white coats hovering around machines. Looked like something out of a sci-fi film if I'm honest. So anyways, this cute doctor came over, took me off to another room. He sat me on the edge of the bed then told me I look like a nervous child, because I was swinging my legs backwards and forwards.
He made me run through my symptoms and how I was feeling again. The tiredness, the aching joints, the burning bones, nose bleeds, headaches, sickness . . . the list is kind of endless. He took out forms on a clipboard and flipped through them.
'Well,' he said, 'can I cheek you ever again?' his eyes flickered off the papers and up to me.
'Yup,' I said. He took the stethoscope from around his neck, and listened to my heart first, then my lungs from the front.
'Nice and strong,' he said, 'slightly irregular rhythm, but I don't think there is much to worry about there. Do you want to swing round so I can listen to your lungs?' I did as I was told. He listened to my lungs from the back. Made a comment about my bruises and bandages then pulled my top and hoddie back down and walked over to his desk. He crossed his legs resting his ankle on his knee and put his hands together.
'Well,' he said, 'what would you like first? The good news or the bad news?' he said it all with a sickly smile.
'Go for the bad, the good might make it better.' His lips twitched into a smile.
'Alright, bad news it is.' He lent forwards and picked up the chart again then stood up. 'Come with me.' I hopped off the bed and followed him out of the office and down the corridor. He stopped and one door and walked in. There was a microscope in it, but other than that it was just like his office. He sat himself down in a spiny chair and looked at me.
'So . . .'
'Ashleigh,' I supplied, 'but you knew that because you have my chart. Could you just say what you want to say, I don't like being kept waiting, epically with something like this.' He chuckled and motioned for me to take a seat opposite him.
'Straight talking,' he laughed, 'do you know much about biology? Blood?' I sighed.
'idle chit chat, great,' I said, 'If you must know. Yes, I do know a bit. I wanted to be a doctor when I left school. Funny really, I wanted to be an oncologist. Why?'
