Can't Something Go Right?

I jumped awake as something soft hit me full in the face. I opened my eyes to see Colton standing there, grinning and holding a pillow. "What the heck dude? I was sleeping!" I said, rubbing the drowsiness from my eyes. "I know you were. You had to wake up." He said. I stuck my tongue out at him. He just smiled and chuckled. "So what's on the agenda today? Can we go back to the children's ward? I want to see Allan." I said, stretching. He paused, not saying anything. "What?" I asked, an uneasy feeling settling in my stomach. "I think today should be a resting day for you." He said, not meeting my eyes. "Why? Colton you're hiding something. Just tell me." I urged him. "You're going to be really mad if I tell you." He said cautiously. "Just tell me." I said. "Allan died in his sleep last night. I'm so sorry Genna." He said, hugging me. I felt like my heart broke into tiny shards. I froze, my muscles not responding. 'Allan's dead? No, he can't be. I just saw him yesterday.' But I knew it was true in my heart. My eyes stung and I realized I was crying. The salty tears coursed down my cheeks and my throat felt like it had a hard lump in it. Colton held me close, comforting me in his

arms. I hugged back, the pain too much to bear with alone. Then the sobs came, rising from my throat only to be muffled by Colton's blue shirt. Allan was dead. He died. He's dead. He's dead. No that can't happen. But it did. After what seemed like forever, my sobs turned into whimpers and my tears dried. "Are you feeling better?" Colton asked. I nodded even though I still felt like I had a throbbing hole in my chest. We pulled away from each other a bit. He rose from sitting and held out his hand to me. "Now lets go get some breakfast." He said.

After we ate we arrived back at my room. I laid down in bed as Colton sat on his bed. Just as he did someone knocked on the door. He sighed. "This happens all the time!" He said, throwing his arms in the air. I giggled. He opened the door to reveal my friend Adam. "Adam!" I shouted, jumping out of bed and running over to grab him into a bear hug. He just laughed. "Nice to see you too Genna." He said, hugging me back. As he did so a loud crunching sound echoed through the room. I jumped back. "What was that?" I asked. He chuckled and pull out pretzel sticks from his shirt's chest pocket. "You crushed my pretzel sticks." He said, eating one. "Want one?" He asked, holding two out to Colton and I. We took them and ate them, thanking Adam. "Oh it's nice to see you again Colton." Adam said, smiling. I gave him a curious look. "You too Adam." Colton replied smiling also. That caused me to look between the both of them in confusion. "You two know each other?" I asked. They nodded. I looked at Adam and my jaw dropped. All that time I told Adam about how much I really liked Colton and how I was such a big fan and he never told me he knew him!? Adam even called me a fan girl just to annoy me and he still didn't tell me? "Adam how come you never told me?" I asked, still shocked. "I didn't?" He asked, confusion twisting his looks. I shook my head and he shrugged. "I forgot then." He said. I glared at him and he smiled. Someone knocked on the door and Adam opened it to reveal Brian Mills, a popular guy at school. 'Why is he here? We don't even talk and he's a jerk.' I thought to myself, eyeing him warily. "Hi who are you?" Adam asked. "I wanted to see Genna. I heard about what happened and I came to talk to her, see how she's doing." Brian said, trying to edge into the room. Colton blocked him though, not buying what he was saying. "Do you even talk to her?" He asked, crossing his arms. "Not really but I'm trying to change that. We have math together." Brian said. The was a pause, then Colton turned to me. "I will be just outside the door. You ever need anything, come and get us. He does anything, scream and I will come running. Got it?" He whispered into my ear. I nodded and he turned and left, Adam on his heels. Just as they were crossing the threshold Brian shoved them all the way through and slammed the door, locking it in the process. "Hey!" Was heard on the other side as they tried to knock the door down. It wouldn't budge. Brian suddenly turned to me with a creepy smile on his face. I slowly backed up to the head of my bed again because I couldn't move far. I was hooked up to the IV again. "I heard you were in the hospital. Why? Are you cutting?" He asked. Before I could answer he snatched my wrist and looked at it. I tried to take it back but it was too late. He's already seen the scars. "I knew it! You did cut! Emo freak!" He shouted, letting go. "No I'm not. I haven't done that in a long time. I don't do that anymore." I said. "Yeah right. You're looking for an easy way out. You know what? Why don't I help you with that?" He said, pulling something from behind his back. "No!" I shouted, getting up and trying to grab whatever it was he had. I thought it was a gun, but it was a syringe. With a clear liquid in it. He moved like lightning, pushing me away and injecting the needle into the fluid bag before I could even move. I tried to rip the needle out of my arm but he caught my hand and pressed down on the needle to keep it there. Pain lanced up my arm and I screamed in agony. "Hold on Genna! We're coming!" I heard Colton yell. I squirmed and fought against his hold. "Hold still! You want to die? You got it!" Brian said, pressing the needle further into my arm. Suddenly there was a huge crash and then Brian was gone. I ripped out the needle and saw Colton and Adam wrestling Brian to the ground. Cops and doctors filed in shortly after and the cops took Brian as the doctors checked out my arm. One doctor took the IV bag and took it away, probably to examine it and see what Brian put in it. As the police took away a handcuffed and angry Brian, the doctor said that the liquid didn't seem to be in my bloodstream and that there will only be a bruise. Other than that I was fine. They left the room and Adam and Colton walked up to me. "Are you ok?" Adam asked, a worried expression on his face. "Yeah. Only a bruise." I softly said. "And emotional scarring." Colton said. "Yeah." I agreed, smiling. Is there more of this to come? I hope not.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Hey guys hope you liked it! Ugh this girl is being a total jerk to me and she always has been. I thought she was my friend for at least seven years, because when I moved here she was the second person I met and my second friend. She was always mean to me but I was too young to realize that that's not friendship. I've grown up thinking that being bullied was the way of friendship. But now I realize it's wrong and I'm taking a stand. Yep! Haha anyway sorry for venting but you know what to do. LIKE, VOTE, and COMMENT!
