Thanksgiving 2015
The Blackbourne team was finally able to check in with their families. It's been a long 3 years and they weren't sure if they were ever going to get out of hiding.
With one of the 3 burner phones, Luke and North decided to call Uncle first. With the phone on speaker and all of the brothers ready to hear a familiar voice.
"This is Uncle." Uncle answers the phone.
"Uncle, it's us. North and Luke." North grunted out.
"If I weren't in public boy, I'd rip your ass a new one. All of you. Why the fuck am I hearing from you now?" Uncle growled. They all gasped. Uncle never cussed.
"We just needed to check in, we finally feel safe enough to do so." Uncle scoffed at Lukes explanation.
"Well you're alive, good to hear. Anything else you needed from me." Uncle sounded cold and detached. North and Lukes heart ached because they understand why Uncle is so upset.
"Is everything okay? We don't have much time. I-is Sang okay?" Luke chocked out. He couldn't stand they left the only girl he has ever loved or will ever love behind.
"I'm fine. But you all don't get to ask about her. You lost that right 3 years ago. If you want to know how she is you call her. I'll just tell you this. She's finally happy. That woman has been through too much and I don't even know some days how she's standing but she does it with the most beautiful smile on her face. You all might have thought you broke her but really you leaving turned her into the most wonderful woman I have the pleasure of loving. She is the daughter I never had. And I don't know if I can ever forgive you for what you put her through." Uncle hangs up.
Looking around at all of his brothers faces, Sean notices they all, even Owen, have tears in their eyes. They are so happy she is moving on with her life but they are heartbroken it isn't with them.
"Kota, why don't you call your mom now." Owen passed Kota the next cell phone after smashing the one they just used to talk to Uncle. Owen dropped formalities soon after they went into hiding. It seemed unnecessary anymore. He needed to be a brother not just a leader.
Kota takes the phone and reluctantly dialed his mother's number. There was an answer on the phone but before anyone could say anything Erica was telling at someone with her.
"Riley leave Roman alone! He wants to read! Give him back his glasses!" She sighs. "Hello this is Erica."
"Mom, it's Kota." She gasps and they can hear light sobs.
"Mom, are you okay?"
"Oh Kota, I'm so happy to hear you're okay. Now I don't feel guilty for being so incredibly mad at you. I can't even believe what you all have done." She shouts a little hysterically down the phone line.
"I'm sorry Mom, we had to leave. It wasn't safe anymore." Kota pleads for her to understand even though he knows she can't know the details. No one but their Academy family can.
"Kota, we've pretty much figured out why you left in the middle of the night with nothing but notes to us. What I'm upset about is that disgustingly short letter you left Sang and for a decision you made without her consent. But you boys always think you did know what was best for her with out ever asking." She chuckles. "You boys really messed up. But if you ever do come back, know that the Sang you left behind is no longer here. She's so much better. She doesn't need saving. That girl does the saving now." She sighs.
Trying to change the topic, not able to hear about Sang anymore, Kota asks. "Mom, who's Roman and Riley?" He hears his mom suck in a sharp breath.
"Th-they are twins I'm babysitting for a new family in the neighborhood." She slightly stutters, worried she didn't sound convincing enough. This is not how they should find out about their children. Erica wasn't sure they deserved any forgiveness from Sang. She was just happy that Sang had moved on. Though the leaving of her first real family plagued her, Erica could tell Sang was happier than she had ever been. Including being with the Blackbourne team.
"Look Kota, I have to go. I'm so happy that you are okay and that I got to hear from you. But I'm so incredibly disappointed. I love you son."
"I love you to Mom. Please don't tell Sang we called." Kota choked out.
"Never. I'm not reopening old wounds. Until you come back, she'll never know I heard from you." Erica hangs up.
The Blackbourne team stays silent, everyone mulling over everything they heard. Tears streaming down all of their faces. What had they done? They did the right thing, right? They couldn't risk everyone's life because they didn't want to leave Sang. Why were Uncle and Erica so angry though? They never expressed this much outward love and emotion towards Sang before. I guess it had been 3 years and things have changed.
"Well that went fucking well." Gabriel sighed.
They all hoped they could figure this out before it was to late to salvage their relationship with Sang. They knew without a shadow of a doubt that they needed her. She may have changed but the core of who she was would always be the same and they needed that. They'd do anything and everything to get that girl back once they could come home.
