The moment I said it

The moment I opened my mouth

Lead in your eyelids

Bulldozed the life out of me

I know what you're thinking

But Darling you're not thinking straight

Sadly things just happen we can't explain

You stood there in front of him, staring him down with eyes glazed over. You had told yourself you wouldn't cry. That, however, was better in theory. You couldn't stop the tears from falling and running down your face.

The way he just stood there, staring back, absolutely no emotion. It broke your heart.

You had done everything you could to make things work but nothing - nothing at all - helped. It was like no matter what you did, it only made things worse.

It's not even light out

But you've somewhere to be - No hesitation

No I've never seen you like this

And I don't like it, I don't like it, I don't like it at all

He sighs and turns his back to you, grabbing the car keys off the table, "We'll talk later. I've got somewhere to go."

You took a step forward and grab his arm before he could reach the door, "No. Talk now. Wherever you're going, it can wait. It's really late."

His phone goes off and he glances down at it.

Just put back the car keys

Or somebody's gonna get hurt

Who are you calling at this hour?

Sit down, come round, I need you now

We'll work it all out together

We're getting nowhere tonight

Now sleep, I promise it'll all seem better somehow

In time

He throws the keys back down, turning back to face you, his face still absent of all emotion. Of all care. It sent a chill down your spine.

"Fine. Let's talk." His words were sharp and spiteful.

"Can we sit down, please?"

His eyes roll as he makes his way to the couch, you following closely behind.

"Look I... I don't know if something has been bothering you lately or what, but," you pause and give him a gentle smile, "whatever it is, we can work through this. What's bothering you? I'm here for you to talk to. So, please, talk to me."

It's not even light out

Suddenly, you've somewhere to be

No hesitation

Mmm... I've never seen you like this

You're scaring me, you're scaring me

You're scaring me to death

"I'm fine. Nothing is wrong." He says, his voice distant.

"Clearly something is wrong and you're not telling me." You rest your hand on his knee.

He stands up and walks a few feet away, "Why do you always think something is wrong? Why does something always have to be wrong?"

"Because the way you've been acting as of late. Gray, I feel like I'm losing you here!"

Don't... oh (smash)... please

Don't... oh... and another one

Don't... oh... and another one

He runs his hand down his face and sighs, "I've got somewhere to be."

I'm losing you... I'm losing you

"Please, don't go." You stand up, pleasing, tears running down your face. Your heart ached.

He grabs the keys.

This doesn't have to end like this.

Trust me on this one

I've got a bad feeling

Trust me on this one

You're going to throw it all away

No hesitation

"Stop! Listen to me."

He opens the door.

"If you walk out that door, you lose me."

He doesn't stop. He walks out and closes the door behind him.

No hesitation.

The click of the door shatters your heart as you sink to your knees, a sobbing mess.

He didn't even hesitate.
