Time.

What was time?

To some it signified a passing of something.

To others it meant the coming of something.

To the remaining few left, it meant nothing.

And that is how it was.

He walked the streets to pass the time, like usual. His mind adrift. Everywhere and no where particular.

She was headed home, in a hurry, like usual.

They passed each other daily but never saw each other. Yet, what they didn't know, was that they were connected. Destined to be together. No matter what happened in life, no matter what was thrown at them, they would eventually be together.

A train station.

She rummaged through her purse, in search of something.

He stood off, alone, away from people. His gaze grazed over everyone, not paying anyone any special attention. When his eyes landed on her, a man had walked up and began talking to her. He could tell that she didn't want to talk, especially with what he wanted to talk about. With a sigh, he picked up a bottle cap from the ground and skillfully flicked it at him and turned away.

The man turned around in search for the culprit. Cursing, he walked away from her.

When he looked back, their eyes had met. Not for the first time, but for the first time in this life.

She knew who her savior was. She gave him a soft smile and a nod, silently thanking him.

He merely returned the gesture with a shrug.

The feeling of knowing someone but not being sure if you do or not.

Was it coincidence that he was the one to save you from the pervert?

Each day that passed, passed with more sightings from each other. At restaurants. At the gas station. Train station. Grocery store. The streets. Everywhere he went, she was there. Everywhere she looked, he was there.

A year had passed since that first sighting. The time had come. The taunting feeling knowing someone but being unsure of where or when you had met them subsided.

Both of them knew now.

She walked up to him at the bar, "It's been a long time, Mikoto."

He gave her a soft smile, "It has, _______." He turned to the bar tender and ordered your usual.

"You still remember?"

He nodded, "Of course. How could I forget?"

"You say that now, but we both know. One day, we will both forget."

And so once more, the two of them lived out a long and happy life. Different and filled with more wonders than the previous ones.

"I wonder," he used his last few breaths to say his final goodbyes to you in this world, "I wonder where we will be in our next life."

You gave him a soft sad smile, "It doesn't matter because we will be together."
