Kaneki Ken x Reader [AU]

I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you.
Yes, there's a chance that I've fallen quite hard over you.
I've seen the paths that your eyes wander down.
I want to come too.

As usual, the morning crowd shuffled in and out of the small coffee shop on the corner. People rushing to get their morning burst of energy and make it to work on time. You however, were not one of those busy bodies. You patiently waited in line without a care or worry in the world. Your mind was elsewhere. Far away from this world, as usual. Imagining all sorts of adventures that could happen, that might happen, that would never happen.

I think that possibly, maybe I'm falling for you.
No one understands me quite like you do.
Through all of the shadowy corners of me.

Once your coffee was in hand, you made your way cautiously to an empty table, where you set you bag down and pulled out a book. The book that held your latest adventure, love, and interests. Without your knowledge, the coffee shop filled up quicker than usual. A young man walked up to you and tapped you on the shoulder, requesting the seat across from you. With a smile, you nodded and allowed him with no fuss.

Throughout the days, each time it grew busy, he would make his way over to your table and sit silently across from you. This grew into something he did even on days where the shop was half empty.

I've seen the waters that make your eyes shine.
Now I'm shining too.

Finally working up the courage, you set your book down and turned to the young male. Noticing a shift in your posture, he looked up from the book in his hands and at you. Once your eyes met, both of your faces flushed and the gaze was broken by a quick retreat. You brought your eyes back together and exchanged smiles.

Because, oh, because,
I've fallen quite hard over you.
If I didn't know you, I'd rather not know.
If I couldn't have you, I'd rather be alone.

"I'm Kaneki Ken," he held out his hand, despite his slightly red face, he looked confident in himself.

Setting your hand in his, you looked up into his beautiful eyes, "I'm _______ _______."

And thus began the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Talks of books and authors arose every time you met. Giving him names of books that you had previously read in exchange for names of books that he had previously read.

With each day, you grew to expect his presence next to you at the coffee shop. With each day, you felt your heart flutter a little more when he smiled at you. With each passing second of conversation, you could feel your feelings for him grow deeper and deeper.

"I think I've fallen in love with you, _______-chan," Kaneki said out of the blue.

His face looked calm and peaceful, as if he was in a daydream and didn't mean to say those words aloud. Your face reddened and your eyes landed on the table in front of you.

Snapping out of his serious mood and realizing what he had just said, he bowed his head, "I'm sorry, _______-chan, I- I don't know why I said that so suddenly!"

You giggled and looked back up at him, "It's okay, Kaneki-kun." You lifted his chin up and smiled, "I think I've fallen in love with you, too."

So, I've wanted to do a Kaneki story for quite some time, but could never figure out how the hell to go about it. Going based on the show just doesn't seem like a good idea so I went with this. I figured, even though it's AU, keeping the coffee shop and books were a great idea. Hope you guys enjoyed! Sorry it's a bit cheesy at the end.
