"i know it breaks your heart, moved to the city in a broke down car"

rusty

why do we pour our heart and soul into material things? why do we spend so much of our life yearning for what has been lost only to forget?

because every atom of material holds memory.

because time makes us forget, but objects never forget.

because time cannot heal the inanimate.

because memories are frozen in objects.

that time the dog shed all over the seats, that oddly unique scent, the way the faux leather felt under us, our discomfort on long, hot drives, that one time the air conditioner gave up on us, that time we wanted to sleep in the car but they wouldn't let us, how we had to climb on the roof when we were washing it and the last few days, when we never left home but left it alone.

because i think it knows all that, maybe it even feels.

because it is impossible to prove that the inanimate never forget.
