“That was amazing,” Andy said, playfully rubbing his stomach as we walked out of the restaurant. “I haven’t had anything that delicious since I’ve been on tour.”
“Well, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Maybe you should hang out here a little longer. You still haven’t tried our famous cheesecake.”
“I doubt your cheesecake can compete with Ohio chili."
“Seriously? You’re putting chili against cheesecake? Are you just asking to lose?” I teased.
“Don’t judge the chili until you’ve tried it.”
“Well, maybe one day I’ll get to try it,” I smirked.
Andy smiled, “Maybe.”
We continued strolling the streets of my small town. Andy casually slipped his hand into mine, and I couldn’t help the wide grin that erupted on my face.
Once we had reached a bench in the local park, Andy and I sat down. The spot overlooked the park’s lake, which reflected the pale moonlight.
Andy turned towards me after a moment, “I really had an amazing time tonight.”
“Me too,” I smiled.
“I feel like a selfish douchebag for asking this, but it’s the only thing I can imagine doing,” Andy said and I waited for him to continue, prompting him with an unsure smile. “Come on tour with me, Hailey.”
I blinked, my face completely blank. Then, I blinked again, trying my best to understand what he was thinking.
“Are you crazy? We just met. I have school and parents. And I doubt your band would appreciate me tagging along.”
“Fuck school. You’re smart enough, as is. And, my band wouldn’t mind. I know they would love you. We could work it out. I need you with me,” Andy said. He leaned in to give me a quick peck on the lips before continuing, “I know I’m being selfish. It’s just now that I have you, I don’t want to let you go.”
Maybe Andy was just being spontaneous and this would all end up being a mistake, but I couldn’t find the words to reject his idea. In fact, it almost sounded like a good idea. I could vividly imagine spending the next few months with Andy and the rest of the band on tour. I thought about watching the band perform from the side stage, snuggling with Andy in his bunk while watching movies, and getting to know all the little facts about Andy that made me smile.
As my mind imagined these scenarios, it became even more impossible to consider saying no to Andy. Biting my lip, I hesitantly said, “Don’t you think we’re moving too fast?”
Andy sighed, “Everything in my life is fast. I’m either touring or recording, and I never slow down. I feel like if I don’t get to know you, and take advantage of this opportunity to really make something work with you, I’m going to regret it. I know, to you, this seems crazy. But to me, this seems like the only way I can make time to get to know you, to maybe fall in love with you. Hailey, I really like you, and I know I’m probably freaking you out by moving way too fast, but I really feel like this is the right thing to do.”
“Well, we can talk to my parents about it. When did you say you were leaving?”
“Uhh... tonight,” Andy said quietly.
“Andy! Are you serious right now?”
“I know, and I’m sorry, but I think this is really right. I just have a feeling.”
I shook my head, sighing, “Well, I guess we should go talk to my parents.”
Andy suddenly looked alarmed, “We?”
