It had been two weeks since I had joined the guys on tour. In that time, Andy and I had grown unbelievably closer, learning everything about each other. I had also grown very close to the rest of the band. Ashley, Jake, CC, and Jinxx were becoming like brothers and I loved spending time with them. They were all so funny and sweet. It felt like I had known them for years, instead of just a few weeks. I had grown especially close to Ashley, and found him amazing and caring, despite his Playboy image.
Christmas had just passed, and although I missed spending it with my parents, the guys made me feel at home. They had even gotten a fake miniature tree and some lights for the bus, making it a lot more festive. I had Skyped with my mom on Christmas Eve, telling her how much I missed her and listening to her talk about town gossip. My father still refused to speak to me, but my mom assured me that he was coming around.
Today was December 26th, the day of Andy’s 21st birthday. For me, the day was going to be both exciting and slightly upsetting. Since I was only 18, I would have to stay behind while Ashley, Jake, Jinxx, and CC took Andy out for a night of drinking and partying. Deciding to push my worries to the back of my mind, I focused on the task at hand. Quietly walking towards Andy’s bunk, I sat the cupcake I had gotten him and its plate on the floor beside the bed and slowly sat on the edge.
Leaning down towards Andy, I placed a kiss on his lips, then his neck, then his ear, then back down to his collar bone. Humming “Happy Birthday,” I continued my peppering of kisses. Slowly and groggily, Andy awoke, smiling up at me.
“Happy birthday, baby,” I said quietly.
“Thanks.”
Grabbing the cupcake, I quickly lit the candle I had sat atop it. Bringing the cupcake towards him, I smiled and said, “Make a wish.”
After a moment, Andy closed his eyes and blew it out.
“What did you wish for?” I asked as he began to eat the cupcake.
“I can’t tell you or it won’t come true.”
Breaking off a piece, he sweetly commanded, “Open.” Parting my mouth, I let him place the piece of cake inside. After finishing the treat, we cuddled for a while as we discussed the day ahead. Although Andy was an experienced drinker, he was still stoked for his first official night of legal drinking.
Because of the holidays and Andy’s birthday, the guys hadn’t played any shows for awhile. They had considered flying home for the break, but didn’t think it was worth it since it was only for a few days. However, I could tell they were all getting restless. There were only so many movies you could watch, books you could read, and games you could play before everything just became boring. The day passed slowly, with the guys having a jam session while Andy worked on lyrics and I passed time on the computer. We watched V for Vendetta and then it was time for the guys to get ready to go. I tried to hide my disappointment at being left alone while the guys went out and had a fun time, but I could tell that Andy saw right through it.
“You trust me, right?” He asked.
“Of course I do, it’s just I don’t trust all the slutty girls out there mixed with the fact that you’ll be highly intoxicated.”
“Jinxx is our DD and he’ll watch out for me, but you have to trust me, okay?”
“I do, I’m sorry for being one of those annoying girlfriends,” I said, putting on a fake smile.
“You’re not annoying, you care. It’s sweet.”
Soon, the guys headed out and I was left to my own devices.
After reading for a bit, I couldn’t fight the urge to get out and do something. I knew if I stuck around here for the next few hours, I would go crazy wondering exactly what Andy was doing. Just as I was about to get up, I got a picture message from CC. It was of Andy drinking a glass of amber colored liquid, probably whiskey. Underneath it, he’d written “Little Andy’s first legal drink.”
