“Wait, you’re Scout, as in Andy’s ex-girlfriend?” I asked, feeling an embarrassing amount of jealousy build up inside of me. I knew I shouldn’t have felt that way considering they weren’t dating any longer, but there was a part of me that hated that Scout had loved Andy before I had. I hated that Andy had memories with Scout that I would probably never know about, or want to for that matter. He had permanent tattoos on his body and a song on We Stitch These Wounds dedicated to her. There was a part of me that just wasn’t sure if I could compete.
“Yeah, we used to date,” Scout said.
As if being broken from a trance, Sammi spun around, her eyes widening when she Scout.
“Scout!” Sammi squealed excitedly, grabbing Scout and pulling her into a hug.
Scout laughed and hugged Sammi back, “I’ve missed you, Sammi. We haven’t talked in forever.”
“I know we haven’t, and that’s really going to have to change. What are you doing here?”
“Umm... I came to visit Jake, actually.”
Sammi paused, clearly not expecting that answer. After a moment, she said, “What?”
“Jake and I have been talking for awhile. He asked me to come to the show so he could officially introduce me to the guys as his girlfriend.”
“Oh,” Sammi said, uncertainty clear in her tone.
“I know how it sounds, but I really never expected to fall for him. It just... happened,” Scout explained.
“We’ll talk about it later, okay? After the concert.” Sammi said, returning her attention to the stage.
I could tell Scout felt a little upset by Sammi’s reaction to the news. I knew Sammi hadn’t meant to hurt Scout’s feelings, she was obviously just surprised. A few songs passed and even though I tried to pay attention to the music, my thoughts kept returning to Scout, Andy, and Jake. I had a feeling Andy wasn’t going to take the news well, considering he had dated Scout for almost six years and considered Jake one of his best friends. Even though they had broken up, the situation still held a bit of betrayal.
Scout’s voice broke me from my thoughts, “Is Andy drunk?”
I looked up and spotted Andy sort of stumbling around the stage. To be honest, Andy wasn’t the most coordinated person, but this was very different. He seemed to be disoriented and swaying slightly. If I hadn’t known any better, I would have thought he was drunk too, but I knew Andy hadn’t had anything to drink tonight.
“No, he’s not,” I finally answered. “He wasn’t feeling well before the show though.”
As the band began to play the chords of the chorus, Andy didn’t start to sing. He walked over to Jinxx and whispered something in his ear. Jinxx immediately stopped playing, sending a wave of confusion throughout the crowd. Just as I was debating about what to do, Andy fainted, collapsing to the stage.
“Oh my God,” I muttered, running onto the stage and bending over him. Turning back to the side stage, I yelled to Sammi to call an ambulance. The entire band ceased their playing and hushed murmurs flew through the crowd. Jon, CC, Jinxx, Jake, and I all knelt over Andy.
Tears began to stream down my face as I worried about Andy. Seeing my tears, Jinxx wrapped his arm around my shoulders and said, “Don’t worry. Andy’s going to be fine.”
“What did he say to you before... before he fainted?”
“He just said that he wasn’t feeling well and didn’t know if he could finish the show,” Jinxx answered. I nodded and stroked Andy’s hair, trying to stop my crying.
